Gun Griffon: The Eurasian Conflict from Game Arts (Japanese) Available 3/11 at $58 |
Sailor Moon Super S from Angel (Japanese) Available 3/11 at $68 |
| Game arts has always been a high quality producer of software for various Japanese gaming platforms. While their first Saturn attempt Yumimi Mix Remix did not exactly make a splash in the market in Japan (and the USA), their latest Saturn release looks like a winner. Gun Griffon is a 1st person perspective war game where you control a mech thrust into different theatres of conflict. Each mission offers you objectives to reach in order to go to the next stage of conflict. Your mech has to battle through waves of other mechs, thanks, helicopters and enemy installations with a variety of weapons at your disposal. For example, you must use your missiles to take down enemy helicopters and then your guns to shred enemy mech armor. Saturn owners who have video-CD capability will experience cleaner video footage and full screen animation sequences. This would make Gun Griffon the first game to take advantage of the Video-CD card in the Saturn. Non-Video-CD Saturn owners will have to make do with cropped video sequences and choppier animation. The gameplay should not be affected however by the lack of a Video CD card. | Love them or hate them, Sailor Moon comes to the Playstation in the form of a 1 on 1 fighting game reminescent of Pretty Fighter X on the Sega Saturn. Sailor Moon is a popular anime series in Japan whose success is second only to the Dragon Ball Z phenomenon. Like Dragonball Z, there are many characters in this cartoon series and this fighting game features all of them. Super S features crisp background graphics and hand drawn characters so that it looks like you're playing a cartoon. Sailor Moon is heavy on cheesecake and somewhat short on content but fans of the series will undoubtably pick this one up to see what their heroines are up to on the Playstation. Recommended. |

Linkle Liver Story from Sega (Japanese) Available 3/11 at $58 |
Lode Runner from Partner (Japanese) Available 3/11 at $54 |
| Yes, the name is Linkle Liver. This Zelda-ish role playing game centers around a red headed female 'elf' with horns. Lets call her Linkle, for lack of a better name... Linkle can perform a variety of moves in the game; she can spin, jump, slide, fly, etc which gives this title an action-game feel to it. The graphics look fine but decidedly 16-bit, But hey, its the gameplay that is important in these types of games and Linkle Liver looks like it will be a fun game to get into thanks to your character's freedom of movement and the motley assortment of characters that you can meet and interact with in the game. Fans of Japanese RPGs should take a look. | The computer classic shows up on the Saturn with new backgrounds, more involved playfields, and tons of levels to spelunker through. The game is basically a platform game where your character must collect little nuggets of gold while avoiding "gold hustlers" who try to kill you and steal your gold or something like that. Its fun and a nice blast from the past in what is getting to be a crowded field of classic games gone '90s. |

World Advanced 2 from System Soft/Sega (Japanese) Available 3/11 at $58 |
Street Fighter: The Animated Movie from Capcom (Japanese) Available 3/11 at $68 |
| A new scenario/campaign disc for use with the original World Advanced game is available this week from Sega. Please note that the original game is required in order to use this scenario disc. For your convenience, World Advanced from NCS is now available for $59, a USA version of World Advanced will be available from Working Designs sometime in April. This compaign disc features new missions and new military units that you can add to your game. The innovation with World Advanced in the war simulation genre was its use of computer animated sequences which displayed the battle and the launch of your attacks against your enemies. Some of the animations are stunning to look at, there's a sense of satisfaction in watching a large force of your armor arrayed against another army, about to start a fierce fire fight. | The Sony Playstation version of SF: Animation came out a few months back and was a nice collections of video footage from the SF: Animated Movie made into an interactive movie. The Saturn version released this week is the same exact game spread over two CD-ROMs. There is a part in the game where you can fight against a non-descript robot but make no mistake, this is an interactive movie. Titles like thse are great for fans of the animated movie and Street Fighter in general but those looking for bone breaking action, look to SF:Zero for your jollies. |

Saturn Super Volume 6 (March 1996) (Japanese) Available 3/11 at $21 |
|
Super Mario RPG from Nintendo (Japanese) Available 3/11 at $88 |
The latest Saturn playable preview and previews disc magazine will look at all of the upcoming releases for the month of March. This has been a popular magazine and should help most consumers choose which games to look forward to and buy in the next few weeks. |
| This long awaited 3-D Role playing game should sell very well thanks to the coverage it has received in the past few months from magazines around the world. A USA release is slated for sometime in April so the import version should sell for a month in the local market. Super Mario RPG features beautiful graphics and puts Mario in a 3-D world where you view the action at a 3-D isometric overhead angle. It looks very interesting and if it plays as good as it looks, Nintendo will have another Mario legend on their hands. Its not Nintendo 64 Mario but in the meantime, it looks good enough. We won't hold our breath for the Nintendo 64 but NCS will keep our stores and customers posted on this item's availability. |
