Playstation Releases for 07/15/96 |

| from Sony Computer Entertainment This abstract sounding title from Sony is a beautifully drawn
role playing game with cartoony type characters reminiscent of Secret of
Mana on the Super Nintendo. The main character in the game is an orange
maned boy who wields a short sword. Like many other role playing games,
you can induce and convince other non-player characters to join your party
and fight by your side. The graphics are very well detailed and are viewed
from a 3-D isometric perspective. Battles are fought on an overlaid hexagonal
battlefield similar to Front Mission where you can move up to a certain
range and then either attack or defend. Popolo should fare very well and
should sell through quickly. |
| Restock More classics from the legendary vault of Namco. Featured in this volume
are: Ms. Pac-Man, Pole Position 2, Tower of Druaga, Phozon, Dig Dug and
Galaxian. |
| Also known as Dynasty Wars 2, Tenchi Kurau shows the progression of the
Final Fight type game up to the current day. Tenchi can be summed up as
a punch and kick side scroller where you control a character and go through
levels, beating up your enemies, picking up weapons and energy pills, riding
horses, etc. It's a cool game that doesn't break any 3-D polygon ground
but is a fun and mindless beat 'em up; these are good once in a while. |

| Galaxian 3 can probably also be called Starblade 2. These two are interactive
movie type games where the action moves along and then you interact by controlling
a cross hair to aim at enemies and blast them away. The visuals are great
but the gameplay may leave something to be desired for some people. If you
enjoyed the Starblade games on the SONYPS, then pick up Galaxian, if you
hated Starblade, then do what you gotta do. |
| Next to Arc the Lad, Gensou is probably the most requested import RPG
for the Playstation. Thanks to in-depth coverage in Diehard magazine, this
game has received quite a bit of interest among role playing gamers. That
and the good chance that this title will never get ported over to the States,
makes this something of a "Most Wanted" title. Gensou features
a very interesting and involved storyline revolving around a host of characters
with whom you can interact with and get to know. |
| SRMIV is almost a cult game among SFC owners who enjoy robots fighting
it out in a strategy simulation. That is, robots that are deformed to boot.
That is, deformed versions of famous Japanese robot characters such as Gundam
and Daigoro. Yes, the game is in Japanese but like Front Mission, it is
not too difficult to figure out the menu options after you have tried them
out. |
