Inuyasha ~ SOK

PS: Inuyasha: Sengoku Otogi Kassen  JPN  US$60  BUY

A well-honed 2-D fighting game which features the characters from popular anime Inuyasha. Half human-demon Inuyasha fights with a massive blade and looks somewhat comical with bulbous pantaloons while Kagome battles with a bow and arrow. She also wears her trademark schoolgirl outfit in battle. Spot animations are sparse but the fighters animate smoothly and the game is reminiscent of early Samurai Shodown without the zooming camera and rage meter. Special attacks may be unleashed with standard semi-circle + push button moves which are accompanied by cinematic animations lasting anywhere from 3 to 5 seconds. Players may choose a 1-player battle and fight the entire cast of characters or opt for the 2-on-2 tag battle where raging partners take on all comers. A natural choice for Inuyasha fans, the gameplay nevertheless stands up to scrutiny on its own. [View back cover]
The first production limited edition of Inuyasha SOK includes the game, a fanbook and a special limited edition trading card which are all packed in a cardboard box. Preorders will ship today at US$53 but new orders are priced at US$60.

Reveal Fantasia

PS2: Reveal Fantasia  JPN  US$39  BUY

According to lore, fairies exist in all lands around the world. From leprechauns in Ireland to the Los Aluxes of Mexico to the generic sprite, the wee folk exist around us. Legends tell of humans who have befriended fairies and harnessed their skills and powers for mutual benefit. In the game Harvest Moon, being nice to the elves gives them impetus to help you during times of strife and with everyday chores.
Reveal Fantasia explores the symbiotic relationship between a human girl and an order of fairies. Members of her family have the ability to see the little people and have tended to them for generations. The fairies have helped the family in turn through the years. As the game begins, a patriarchal debt looms and our heroine has ten months to repay her family obligation. Unable to earn enough by herself, she enlists the help of her fairy friends and goes on errands for townsfolk, quests for special reagents and ingredients, and performs various tasks. Along the way, she will meet new fairies with special abilities whom help her on missions and endeavors. [View back cover]

The snow hit NYC hard yesterday. Unfortunately, when it snows and temperatures drop, the intelligence of some motorists plummet to single digits. Hint: When driving in slush packed roads, its best to stay a fair distance behind the car in front of you. Abrupt stops in road traffic will cause you to plow your vehicle into the backseat of the car ahead and multiple accidents of this nature dotted roads yesterday. Sightings this morning included a hapless owner pouring hot water onto a snow-packed car in an effort to free it from the powder, only to watch it freeze in the 24° temperatures and another speeding on an icy road, fishtailing as it went along. Sad state of affairs.
