Addictive puzzle games hook
players with a simple premise. Deceptively easy at first,
frustration and strife is fomented as levels progressively
become more difficult. In our time, we have known stymied
puzzle gamers who have kicked chairs, broken windows and
ruined relationships with siblings. Nintendo hooks a new
generation of potentially destructive players with a
collection of three classic puzzlers: |
|
Dr. Mario - A twist on the Tetris formula, two-tone
pills drop from the heavens and descend on colorful virus
munchkins. Match pill colors with like-colored viruses in
groups of four to fade them from the screen. |
|
Panel de Pon - Diamonds, circles, hearts and stars
held inside squares rise from the earth in an
unrelenting march to the top. Using a 2-square cursor, a
player arranges the same shapes in groups of at least three
to remove them from the screen. |
|
Yoshi's Cookie - Five types of shapes arranged
in a 2-D matrix are manipulated by row or column with the
goal of matching the same shapes to shuffle them off-screen.
Yoshi stars as the column manipulator whilst Mario moves
rows and offers aural encouragement by bellowing "Yahoo"
after each completed puzzle. |
