ETC Zelda Box

Released last month in Japan, the Zelda Box was not originally available to NCS due to a relatively small print run. A supplier helped us stock a fair quantity of the item this week albeit at a higher than normal market rate. The Zelda Box includes a 116-page full-size book which contains interviews with the creative team behind the Zelda games along with commentary from 49 staffers who worked on WindWaker. Character profiles, sketches, game information and a look back at the history of every Zelda game fills up the rest of the pages. A guide to translate Hairia glyphs found throughout the WindWaker game is also included.
The music CD contains theme songs and sounds from the Zelda games as selected by members of the Nintendo Sound Staff. Kouji Kondo, Kenta Nagata and Hajime Iwai also discuss their musical selections in the book and give the reasons why they marked them for inclusion in Zelda Box. Twelve tracks on the disk provide an aural retrospective of the Zelda franchise. Finally, two miniature figures of Moriburin and Link are packaged inside the box.

  PS2 Saikyo Todai Shogi 2003

Learn the ways of Shogi and play the age-old board game against a skilled computer competitor. The game algorithm was built and refined by graduate students (Tanase Yasushi, Gotoh Norifumi, Kishimoto Akihiro and Nagai Ayumu) from Tokyo University. Their original program was called ISshogi with the IS standing for the Information Science Department at Todai. The students entered ISshogi in the Computer Shogi Championship where it has won a number of times against a gallery of amateur programs as well as commercial programs. ISshogi was the first non-commercial program to win the CSC.
After winning the CSC, Mycom approached the graduate students and a deal was struck to use the ISshogi algorithm in a commercial program which the company has released on PC and Playstation consoles.
The 2003 upgrade features faster decision making and presents a formidable challenge against seasoned Shogi veterans. A few professional Shogi players are also represented in the game and gamers may take them on and battle their unique style of play. A teaching mode also offers a primer on the Shogi game and guides beginners on the ways of playing and setting up defense and attacks.

  GBA Pro Action Replay

Released on May 28, the Pro Action Replay for Gameboy Advance and GBA SP includes a transparent PAR device, a USB cable and a mini-CD which contains PC cheat management software.
Unlock levels, gain infinite energy and supplant opposing kingdoms with unstoppable armies. All this power and more is available to the unscrupulous gamer when armed with a GBA Pro Action Replay and the right codes.
The cheat function alone should suffice to justify the price of admission but the PAR also allows the transfer of codes to and from a computer for fast updates of the latest cheats off the net. Karat includes a a few hundred preloaded codes on the PAR but gamers may add to the existing database as necessary and manage it through an attractively appointed and versatile PC software utility.

A mess of codes are included on the PAR which cover the spectrum of Japanese Gameboy Advance gaming.
