Netsu Chu! Pro Baseball 2004

PS2 Netsu Chu! Pro Baseball 2004 - In Stock

The new baseball season starts in a few weeks and it's only proper that Namco whet appetites with the latest Netsu Chu! Boasting a bounty of game options including Preseason mode, Pennant Mode, Player Creation, Team Edit, and even a Highlights Reel, Netsu Chu 2004 serves up a full plate of baseball love. Updated 2004 team and player data give stats freaks a solid foundation upon which to begin the new season.

When batters walk to the plate, they'll swagger, stretch their arms and point their bats while pitchers dig into the mound with their feet, stretch and scratch. It all looks very impressive but then one realizes that most of the pitchers perform the same mannerisms time after time. Batters are afforded a little more variety in their tics and movements. When talking to the catcher, a pitcher will cover his mouth with his glove, like the pros do in real life so as to foil lip readers sitting in the opposing bench. It's a nice detail if only for show.

A targeting cursor appears onscreen for both pitchers and batters to spot themselves and a well defined strike zone leaves little doubt as to whether or not a pitch was outside or in. There are two little rubik's cube things located above the player stat boxes and these 3x3 graphs show pitcher/batter zones and also records pitch or hit positions with a shining square. For example, if the pitcher throws an inside slider, the lower-left square blinks.

Pro Yakyu Spirits 2004

PS2 Pro Yakyu Spirits 2004 - In Stock

Spring training is in full bloom and it's only a matter of time before we hear the roar of the crowd from Shea Stadium, which is in sight of our office building. It doesn't look like much now but there are signs of activity as the groundskeepers make their rounds and what was once deserted during the winter now buzzes with preparation and perhaps even anticipation. Another sign that baseball season is about to start is the proliferation of baseball games around this time of year.
Konami's Pro Yakyu Spirits 2004 features a large amount of modes once one starts the game. There's Exhibition, Pennant, Rookie, VP Shop, Home Run Derby, Arrange, Utilities and Training. For newbies unfamiliar with the game of baseball, a detailed "How to Play" tutorial shows all the basics of the game and which buttons to push.
All twelve professional baseball clubs from the Japanese league and all 528 players are represented in grand fashion. The quality of the presentation and animation is a bit above today's other baseball game, Netsu Chu! 2004. The motion of the players, the execution of plays, and the subtleties of player animation are superb. When a shortstop and a second basemen are executing a double play, the realistic motion of the action is eye candy. To show off a bit more, the shadows of the players are modeled beautifully and move in tune with their owners as they run, slide, leap and jump.

Raimuiro Senkitan Jun

PS2 Raimuiro Senkitan Jun - In Stock

Known also as Lime-iro Senkitan (Lime-Colored History of War), Raimuiro dabbles in revisionist narrative, convoluted themes and high energy females who tend towards grating rather than endearing. Set during the Russo-Japanese War (1904-05), the Russians have teamed up with an evil force and are amassing a mecha army in Port Arthur. Players adopt the role of Shintaro Uzmakai who serves as teacher and guardian to five Japanese girls gifted with supreme mech handling skills. Precocious and excitable, the girls prove to be a handful in more ways than one. As their guide, Shintaro trains his young charges so they can mount a preemptive strike on the armor build-up in Port Arthur before the Red Army can launch an attack on Japan.

First Limit & Target Nights

Hero on left, roommate on right

  PS2 Sukisyo! Epidode 1&2 - In Stock

Targeted at a female audience, the popular Sukisyo series of Boys Love interaction games is up to four volumes on the PC. To get PS2 players up to speed in a hurry, NEC bundles Sukisyo Episode 1 (First Limit) and Episode 2 (Target Nights) in one value pack. The Sukisyo games play like a myriad of other interactive adventures where gamers read a background story, read character conversations and engage in the drama to move the story along. New to the PS2 conversion is an exclusive scenario, new cinemas and graphics, and full voice participation by the original drama cast for the actors.

In the first episode, the lead character Sora Hashiba falls and suffers an accident at school, winding up in the hospital for a short stay. When he returns to campus, a roommate named Sunao Fujimori welcomes him home. Sora's friend Matsuri Honjou tells him that Sunao is a childhood chum. Problem is, Sora can't remember Sunao at all and his recollection of other things isn't so hot either. On this premise, an interactive adventure of discovery ensues where Sora tries to figure out how and why he fell in the first place to lead to such a mystery. A vindictive math teacher and a ghost of sorts also factor in the gameplay for an interesting storyline.

In the second episode, Sora and Sunao have become close friends and are enjoying their time together in school. One day, a mysterious letter reaches Sora which states quite ominously "I'm coming to steal your precious thing"...

Taiko no Tatsujin Special Pack

PS2 Taiko no Tatsujin Special Pack - In Stock

It takes a special brand of skill...or gall... to release something new without really releasing anything new at all. Taiko no Tatsujin Vol. 3 and Vol. 4 both debuted fairly recently on the PS2 and many Japanese retail shops still have their original stock of the game on hand. With Taiko no Tatsujin Special Pack, Namco effectively forces discounts across the board for those hapless vendors in Japan (and NCS) who still have both volumes in stock.

In additional to Taiko no Tatsujin Vol. 3 and Vol. 4, Namco also includes a sheet of decals and a slipcase which holds the whole shebang together in a compact package. All for the bargain price of US$68.

Tatacon Pachy

  PS2 Tatacon Pachy- In Stock

If a monster with a sweet-tooth ever needed a Pocky fix, it might reach for one of the delicacies seen to the left and crunch into...pure plastic. With Taiko no Tatsujin doing so well in Japan, Namco accessorizes the game with a pair of replacement plastic drumsticks which measure 10.5" long and are imprinted with "Taiko no Tatsujin" on the middle of each stick. The length and strength of the sticks make playing Taiko no Tatsujin a pleasure and they're one of the better game accessories of recent note which make sense and add to the home Taiko no Tatsujin gameplay and experience. Pricing for each Pachy package is US$10 and all preorders will ship this afternoon.

Wars of the Monsters

PS2 War of the Monsters - In Stock

When two gargantuans clash, there's bound to be fireworks. Eight mighty monsters and robots inspired by pop culture fight and thrash around in all-out rabble rousing fisticuffs. There's Congar, the mighty Joe Young look-alike, Togera the Godzilla reject, Preytor - the mantis who represents the insect kingdom and a few others. Kineticlops is one of the stranger ones - it's basically an energy field in the shape of man with a big eye in its chest. Monsters may pummel each other up close or resort to projectile attacks and push off cheap moves and sniping runs. Background objects such as buildings are interactive and may be toppled and knocked down with abandon.
