Dreamcast Magazine Vol. 40 was released on December 15,
2000, a time when the DC was firing on all cylinders and
software publishers believed in the little console
codenamed Katana. The news section checks out a few VMU
variants and some new gadgets. A special section in the
magazine checks out every DC game ever released up to
that point. In case you're curious, there's a total of
245 games and in tiny type, DC Magazine lists its
release date, yen price, VGA compatibility and average
review score. An example is Shenmue which was released
on December 29, 1999 and earned a score of 9.33.
In terms of new reviews, there were only two games for the week of
December 1~7 - Moero Justice Gakuen which earned
a 7.33 and
Blue Submarine No. 6: Saigetsu
Fumahito - Time and Tide which deservedly
received straight 8s.
In-depth features in the magazine consist
of Gauntlet Legends, Sakura Kinematron, Phantasy Star
Online and Moero! Justice Gakuen, Detailed Justice
Gakuen character guides give a little background and
show special moves for every fighter. A thorough guide
on Time & Tide shows off character sketches, ship
designs, game scenarios and colorful scenes from the
game.
Previews include Macross M3, Eve Zero, Angel Present, Hundred
Swords, and Fighting Vipers 2. For Vipers 2, the sketch
book of the artist who designed the characters in the
game is opened up and the creative process is examined
in thorough fashion over a 4-page spread. An interview
with the designers of Guilty Gear X makes for some
interesting reading - there's a photo of Daisuke
Ishiwatari who has bleached the lower part of his long
hair a blonde color. It's a stark contrast when he
stands next to the straight-laced Iori Doi. A GGX
feature that follows checks out some artwork sent in by
devoted readers and a couple of cosplayers dressed to
the nines. Later on in the magazine, there's a bunch of
artwork sent in from readers which celebrate various
Sakura Taisen characters.
NCS prices this issue of DC Magazine at US$6.50 which includes shipping with USPS Media Mail + Delivery Confirmation
within the USA. |
