The Striker bi-plane

Lightning bomb lights up

NEWS Koutetsu Teikoku - Shipping April 30, 2004

In an alternate timeline, the Age of Steel is in full swing and the Motorhead Empire rules the skies with massive battleships and squadrons of fighters. Motorhead makes a mistake when they tread upon the Republic of Silverhead and attempts to take the mining city of Rahl. A clarion call goes out and two mighty vehicles are sent on a mission to topple the Empire - a Striker biplane which flies fast but has lower vitality and the Zep-01 Zeppelin which is slow but starts with higher vitality. Each plane is capable of firing forward, backwards and throwing out mighty lightning bombs which clear the screen of enemy armor. As the game begins, the player launches from a flying fortress and immediately enters the war zone...

Koutetsu Teikoku from Hot-B was originally released in 1992 for the MegaDrive and Genesis. We were impressed with the solid play mechanics back then and Koutetsu Teikoku (Steel Empire) has enjoyed cult status among shmuppers in the years since. After a few months of uncertainty, Starfish has listed the GBA remake of Koutetsu Teikoku on distributor lists for preorder overnight. The remake features much improved graphics, a higher color palette and newly stylized lightning bombs. NCS expects delivery on April 30 at Y4800 or US$49. Preorders are welcome starting today.

Cool Girl - Luna Figure

NEWS Cool Girl: Luna Figure - Shipping July 2004

Takara announced a new Cool Girl action figure based on the operative Luna as embodied by 26-year old Japanese actress Kumiko Asou. Pricing is listed at Y9800 or US$95 from NCS. The quality appears to be high with a hand-stitched outfit and long boots that run up to Luna's thighs. To add to the attraction, only 1000 units will be produced. Once they're gone, that's it.
Kumiko Asou may be seen in the film Casshern (bowing later this month) which takes place in an alternate reality. A 50-year war has devastated the planet and the effects of biological warfare have left the survivors susceptible to disease but there is hope. A scientist hopes to develop a mutagen capable of salvaging wracked bodies but when an experiment goes awry, a new race of superhumans dubbed Shinzo Ningen sprouts out who threaten the very existence of humanity...

Namco Characters Diorama

NEWS Namco Characters Diorama - Shipping June

The nostalgia keeps rolling this summer when Namco looses the Namco Characters Diorama set which features eight classic video game characters from Namco's esteemed library. From the upper left and running clockwise, we have: Pac-Man, Xevious, Mappy, Dig Dug, ?, Famista, Legend of the Valkyrie, and Tower of Druaga. Some of these would be the perfect tie-in for the corresponding Famicom Mini games from February. Measures 6cm each.

Pikmin 2 cellphone strap

NEWS Pikmin 2 Cellphone Strap - Shipping July

With the Japanese version of Pikmin 2 landing on the Gamecube towards the end of April and on the USA Cube in August, there was bound to be some merchandising on the way. Yujin reprises their role as the Pikmin toy manufacturer of choice with 24 Pikmin cellphone straps which ship in July. Each Pikmin figure measures 4cm tall and is attached to a 10cm strap which one threads through a mobile phone. Due to the large amount of straps, we'll likely sell them like we sold the Pikmin keychains - in groups of three which consist of at least one Captain Olimar and two Pikmins. Each set is expected to price in at US$5.50 if the dollar holds its own against the yen over the next few months.

We located roughly 60 barren
Playstation shells over the weekend
and we suspect there may be more
hidden in the recesses of the
unopened cartons that we're still
going through.

A few years ago, when we were still
able to perform modification svcs
on the Playstation, we used 50-60
units for testing, experimentation
with anti-mod chips and our little
PS color shell project many years
ago. All that testing wrecked a lot
of fragile consoles and these are
the empty husks from our years of
labor. We'll think of a purpose for
them. Perhaps we can sell them as
industrial candy dishes in a SOTD...

  SOTD Scrap Heap Scramble

We find the damnedest things when clearing out old, unwanted warehouse space. All of the consoles shown here are broken...we're sure of that, but they may be useful to some in our customer base for spare parts. Power boards should all be fine, CD-Rom drives may be okay or controller ports could be culled from them. We're grouping what we found over the weekend into batches. Four wrecked Saturn consoles here, two Neo Geo consoles there...that sort of thing. We don't have the time to examine or fix them like we did in the early years of the company but we've described each lot  to avoid any misunderstanding or confusion.

Prices do not include shipping. Our online shop will quote actual shipping costs but we recommend UPS Ground ONLY due to the weight of each lot. Click on the photos for more details.

PC-Engine Fan Magazine Vol. 10
135 pages, includes CD-Rom for
the PC-FX game console.

The back cover of the magazine
features an advertisement of
Dokyusei 2 aka Classmate 2 which
was one of our best selling PC-FX
and Saturn games back in 1996-7.

  MOTD PC-Engine Fan Vol. 10 (1996)

SOLDOUT
The October 1996 issue of PC-Engine Fan starts off with a 2-page advertisement upon opening up the issue. A library of PC-FC games are shown with box covers and details. Each and every game is priced at Y7800 at a time when PS2 and Saturn games generally waffled between Y5800 and Y6800. The first article visits two NEC executives who talk about the future of the PC-FX and how the console came to be. A few photos are shown along with a shot of the PowerVR chip used in the PC-FX. An 8-page guide on Angelique Special shows players how to get around the game and interact with other characters which is followed by a 2-page spread for Dragon Knight 4. An article for Akazukin Cha Cha (Little Red Riding Hood Cha Cha) displays a good number of snapshots of the game. An article on Blue Breaker focuses on the characters in the adventure and the animations for each lady warrior. Some other games featured include Megami Tengoku, Fire Woman Matoigumi, and the shooter Super God Trooper Zeroigar. A Can Can Bunny Extra DX article checks out the girls in the game and the locations to find them.

PC-Engine Fan Vol. 10 includes a CD-Rom which contains previews of games such as Megami Tengoku, Zeroigar, Akazukin Cha Cha and a small gallery. A section with voice actress samples is also included for hungry listeners.  A magazine feature on voice actresses detail their work and roles while a reader artwork submission page clearly indicates the influence that prevailing styles have on how fans see their favorite heroes and heroines.

Publisher Tokuma Shoten published two programming books for the PC-Engine in Japan in 1996. An Assembly language book was released in the beginning of 1996 while a Basic language book shipped towards the tail end of 1996. Each book contained a boot disk for use on an MSX or PC-9801 computer and a Super CD-Rom which was loaded onto the PC-Engine. The books included a simple schematic for building a "Develo Box" which connects the PC to the PC-Engine for proper data transfer during development. Patches were released in the August 1996 issue of PC-Engine Fan to allow the Develo System to work on IBM PCs and compatibles. We may still have some PC-Engine Fan magazines from August 1996 and we'll post those once we locate them. A number of type-in programs are included in the issue including one called E.O. Dragon Adventure which one actually types in.

Later in the issue, a full episodic drama is included where readers thrill to an engaging piece of literature and a guide to Chip Chan Kick helps players strategize in the only PC-Engine puzzle game. NCS prices each copy at US$25 which includes shipping with Media Mail + Delivery Confirmation in the USA.
