Originally released on May 15, 1997, Gamest Vol. 194
plumbs the depths of Tekken III and Street Fighter II
New Generation with hearty articles. Upon flipping the
cover, the first 2-page ad peddles Taito's original
version of Densha de Go! for the coin-op market.
A large feature on Tekken III spans 22 pages with detailed move
rosters for characters in the game. There's roughly 50
moves per character and sample screenshots show off the
various moves as they're being executed. Immediately
following the Tekken III spread is a large feature on
Street Fighter III New Generation thats 18 pages long
with moves for characters and large amounts of
screenshots. An advertisement for Sol Divide looks good
with crisp screenshots and attractive artwork..
As the magazine moves onto monotone pages, a Virtua Fighter 3
article details strategy and gameplay tips with a good
amount of screenshots. A Real Bout Special article
follows with some good strategy and play tips. Next up,
a number of sketches of girl game characters from a
coin-op game called Brand New Stars which runs 7 pages.
Later in the magazine, there's a preview of the game,
which is a mahjong simulation. There's also a Densha de
Go article that spans 7 pages with conductor tips and
lots of snaps of tracks and driving strategy.
With the sophistication of the home console machines growing by
leaps and bound and supplanting or equaling the coin-op
arena in technical ability, Gamest checks out some home
console games. Playstation coverage examines Runabout
from Climax and Salamander from Konami which were both
released in 1997.
An artwork section shows off the artistic talents of the magazine's
readers. Previews and reviews as the magazine wraps up
include Sonic Wings Limited, Shienryu, and GTI Club
Rally Cote D'Azur. A Street Fighter EX preview goes on
for 10 pages with moves while a strategy guide for the
original Do Donpachi lays out stage maps. There a short
House of the Dead preview and vibrant screens of Sega's
Scud Race, Alpine Racer 2 and Sega Ski Super G which are
2-3 pages each. Gamest caps the issue with a mini
strategy guide on Data East's Magical Drop 3. |
