Formula for success in the world of manga/animation:
1) Main character must be an underdog. The odder looking, the better. Make sure he/she/it has some special gift that allows him/her/huh to rise above all challenges when the occasion beckons. Roadblocks be damned.

2) Conjure up a quest which fuels the main character to the ends of the earth...or maybe just to the end of town. The quest must seem insurmountable and endure for as many episodes as possible. Throw in a cast of quirky supporting characters who all have their own inner demons to overcome. Mix up male and female cast members for sexual tension. 

3) Insert a superhuman villain or tenacious rival into the picture who mocks the hero. If the villain travels with an entourage, make sure the goons are of the beefy, sunglasses-at-night type who would $%@^@;#$ anyone.  
   Croket! follows the NCS formula concocted above fairly faithfully. The main hero is a brash, purple-haired midget named Croket who joins the ranks of a group of treasure hunters named Bankers. The treasure of choice is a type of coin called a Kinka which one collects to obtain wishes from the Banker God. Croket's quest is to bring his father back from the dead and to that end, he travels to Macadamia Island where Bankers from around the world have congregated to compete. A colorful supporting cast all seek to help and/or hinder Croket's path to poppy's resurrection.

   The GC/PS2 Croket! game is essentially a 3-D adventure game with realtime battles against competing Bankers and characters from the television series. Players may opt for Story Mode which is the game proper or a Survival Mode where players only engage in 3-D fighting. Controls are rudimentary with Croket running around Macadamia Island and interacting with fellow Bankers. Our hero also gets into occasional battles which are tournaments on the road to the final battle with the Banker who killed Croket's father. There's a number of mini-games as well which allow Croket to earn Kinka or special items.
