After the devastating war against the White Comet Empire,
the damaged Yamato returns to earth in the year 2201.
Hailed as heroes by the population and the Federal
government, the surviving members of the Yamato take a
moment to reflect, relax, and prepare for future
conflicts based on their experiences. After the
Yamato is repaired, a new crew is commissioned to the
ship and the big cruiser is sent on a training mission
near the planet Mars. Accompanied by a fleet of
warships, the Yamato is prepared for military exercises
and exploration. However, the fleet detects a remaining group of White
Comet battleships near Jupiter who are hell bent on a
rematch.
On the other side of the galaxy, the Gamelon known as Dessler
is on a new mission of finding a home world and decides
to visit the twin planets of Iskander and Gamilus to bid
farewell to Stasha. As
the planets come into view, he witnesses mining ships
absconding resources and an
powerful attack by a Black Nebula battleship. One blast destroys
the planet Gamilus and the resulting shock wave sends
the planet Iskander hurtling into warp space. Dessler
orders hot pursuit and his fleet follows the path of
Iskander while being attacked by the enemy battleship.
Unable to handle the powerful enemy by himself, Dessler
contacts the Defense Headquarters on Earth and requests
help. Once again, the mighty Yamato is sent into
service and warps into space to join the attack and to
help a new friend.
Man the helm of the Battle Cruiser Yamato and take the legendary
vessel into two theaters of war where players perform in action-packed
space conflicts. The control over Yamato is mastered
through the left analog thumbpad which gracefully
swings through space based on your tugs and pushes of
the stick. Ordnance and weapon systems are controlled
through the other buttons on the Dual Shock. During the
game, ship captains may inspect the condition of the
ship's hull as it takes on damage and weathers the
rigors of war. Repair crews and maintenance workers may
be directed to bolster the weakening bulwarks of damaged
ships throughout the fleet. Versatile cameras situated outside the
ship also allow for viewing the action through different
angles and perspectives.
Bandai ships the first volume of three Space Battle Cruiser Yamato
games this week in Japan. The second and third volumes are
expected in January and April of 2005 respectively. The
first production of Space Battleship Yamato includes a
bonus 60-minute DVD which contains the Space
Battle Cruiser Yamato: New Voyage movie which
debuted in August of 1979. The game and DVD are bundled
together in a nifty slipcase. |
