F-Zero Climax

Blue Falcon racing

GBA F-Zero Climax - New Import

Nintendo's marquee racing brand rushes onto the GBA once again with a hectic action game which throws curves and more curves at the player.
Five characters are immediately selectable at the outset of the game out of a total of 30 possible racers who are hidden by question marks. For our first race, we chose Captain Falcon and the trusty Blue Falcon vehicle. Pressing A accelerates the Falcon while B enshrouds it in a white light of sorts for fiery fast passage throughout a track - it's a speed boost which bumps the velocity up slightly for overtaking close rivals. The L and R triggers serve to shift the vehicle slightly left and right. Holding both L+R triggers sends the Falcon in a spinning frenzy for knocking out rivals off their trajectory. A total of four control schemes may be selected before the game begins and our reference is for Type-1 control. The tracks wind and weave admirably for D-Pad manhandling and some tracks feature long gaps which must be jumped and landed on the other side in order to continue the race in smooth fashion. Miss the jump and your racer hurtles downwards into the abyss. The usual assortment of power drains, power boosts, speed boosts are littered on each track to impede as well as help the racer move along.

Nightmare Before Xmas

Whip. It.

PS2 Nightmare Before Christmas - New Import

Over ten years after NBC debuted on the silver screen, Jack Skellington and friends return for an encore on the PS2. Ever since the movie hit theaters in Japan, toys from Medicom, Sega, Tomy, Yujin and others have kept fans interested in the stylishly macabre yet lovable characters.
As the story goes, Jack finds himself in a slump once again and decides that new scare tactics are needed to frighten and alarm the citizenry. He ventures forth on a mission to discover new tricks and treats. Three mischievous troublemakers hear of Jack's departure and rouse Oogie Boogie who wreaks havoc on Halloweentown. To quell the shenanigans, Jack finds himself questing for peace and normalcy once again.
Armed with a gooey, malleable wad of green ectoplasm, Jack stalks through beautifully designed 3-D levels and smacks foes with a prehensile rope of...mucus. Or something to that effect. Jack may perform whirling spin attacks to smack foes or throw the special goo to grab objects. A third usage is a sort of grappling hook where Jack swings like a veteran jungle king. It's akin to Simon Belmont's whip attack, only 100X more versatile.
Jack may change into two additional personas during the game - Santa Jack and Pumpkin Jack, which expand his variety of attacks. When changing, Jack performs an elegant flourish and morphs. Santa Jack hits hard with snow and cold while the Pumpkin persona dishes out fiery blows. Santa Jack also carries a sack of toys and hands out gifts such as a Jack-in-the-Box which dazes enemies and a snowman that puts oncoming attackers on ice.

Saturn USB Black

PS2 Saturn USB Pad - Black - New Import

A couple of weeks ago, we stocked the Saturn USB pad in white which followed the grey debut of the pad in August. Today, we bring in a black variant which pays homage to the original USA Saturn pad from many years ago. Since Sega seems to be covering all color variants according to the
Saturn color schemes from yesteryear, we're holding out hope for Skeleton Blue and Skeleton pads in the near future.
The Saturn controller was perfect in design, shape, and function and Sega revives the design for a new generation of gamers. The USB Saturn pad is compatible with the Mac OS X (v10.2.8) and Windows (Windows 98SE, ME, 2000, XP) PCs with at least a USB 1.1 port and is auto-detected upon insertion.

MGS2 Dendou cover

PS2 Konami Dendou Collection - New Imports

In Japan, good games usually enjoy three lifetimes. The best enjoy up to four or five before they succumb to the rigors of time and market satiation. The first lifetime is the initial release of the game at full price where 100,00 to a few million copies are sold. The first release is where the publisher hopes to make most of its return on investment. Nary six months (or thereabouts) later, the publisher submits the game for "the Best" collection which is Sony's budget banner for older but still good games. Other than Sony's standard fees and printing costs, Best games at Y2800 are pretty much pure profit - the development and marketing costs have been factored into the first printing of the game and product awareness is already out there. Should the publisher want to sow its oats for a third time, they'll normally release the game under its own in-house budget label. In Konami's case, it's called the Dendou Collection and this week, we bring in three Dendou games and one "the Best" game culled from Konami best sellers.

Nintendo Bath Towels

NEWS Nintendo Bath Towels - Shipping Feb 2005

When stepping out of a steaming shower, bath, or pool, one needs a thick, thirsty towel to mop up the rivulets of water running down one's back. Since bathing and showering are daily rituals (we would hope), why not enjoy the experience with a bright, colorful towel which reflects age-old gaming sensibilities?
Banpresto once again pimps out retro Nintendo themes but this time, they're expertly woven into cotton towels which measure 120 x 60cm or 47 x 23.62" in size. Four styles are available and we're partial to (B), where Mario runs across blue bricks amidst a black backdrop. Delivery in February 2005.
