GBA Dragonball Adventure

Fighting patsy

Twin boss attack

GBA Dragonball Advance Adventure - New import
Gokou rushes off into a new adventure where the spiky-haired lad punches and jumps in side scrolling platform action. Controls are of the rudimentary sort with "A" forcing Gokou to jump and "B" setting off a punch/slash attack. To unleash a special whirling roundhouse stick attack, press the "Left Trigger." Later in the game, Gokou will learn how to tap his inner power and throw fireballs by holding the "Right Trigger." A life bar meters the amount of vitality remaining but apples and burgers may be picked up along the way to replenish life force.

When enemies are close, Gokou will perform a punch but if they're a little farther away, a bo stick lashes out pain. The first level introduces gamers to troll-like monsters and flying creatures that bear a likeness to pterodactyls. Some of the winged beasts drop bombs on Gokou so take them out at first sight. The first end level boss is a patsy and one should be able to knock him out fairly quickly.
In the second level, Gokou takes to the air on a cloud and battles more pterodactyls and a pig which changes into a red bat which in turn eventually morphs into a powerful missile. It'll launch nasty rocket exhaust blasts as well as charge into Gokou with a pointy beak. This one's a little trickier but the key to winning against it is to jump whenever it tries to attack...

Later in the game, Gokou will face off one-on-one against adversaries, travel to new and exciting lands, and meet goofy characters who offer help and hints. Power-ups are also available for the picking including one which grants temporary invincibility and another which extends the reach of the bo-stick. There is one level where the attackers fire off a lot of bullets. To counter the buckshot, press up on the D-pad and hold B. Gokou will perform a spinning defensive maneuver which bounces bullets right back at shooters.

PS2 Beatmania IIDX 8th Style

PS2 Beatmania IIDX 8th Style - New import
Konami's latest home conversion of Beatmania didn't require a promotional campaign to drum up the necessary preorder numbers like IIDX 7th Style did. The strength of 7th's sales sort of fixed that. Bemani's an aging franchise but the jaded old school contingent appears to be bolstered by a new generation of rhythm handlers. The 57-track listing on the back of the DVD insert features a number of familiar names and new inductees including:

rainbowflyer : dj TAKA
thunder : Lion MUSASHI
airflow : MR.T
DANCER : DE VOL
Holic : TaQ
Red Nikita : Osamu Kubota
Small clone : Yu Takami
jelly kiss : Togo project featuring Sana
CELEBRATE NITE : N.M.R.

Another 30 unlockable songs and a number of modes such as Hi-Speed, Gallery, Battle, and Expert round out the latest IIDX experience.

PS2 Dragon Quest VIII

NEWS Import Outlook - Shipping Tuesday-Wednesday
Thursday is the Thanksgiving holiday in the USA and Friday will be affected by a holiday pickup/delivery schedule where only air packages (UPS overnight and 2nd Day) are being picked up and delivered. Due to the festivities, NCS has arranged for shipments to arrive (possibly) on Tuesday and Wednesday of this week. The Asian version of PS2 Dragon Quest VIII has shipped from suppliers overnight so there's a good chance that it will make it tomorrow.
The only other imports of note being released this week are PS2 Lupin III: Columbus no Isan wa Akenisomaru and
Tecmo Hit Parade which features seven arcade perfect classics from Tecmo's library such as Bomb Jack, Pinball Action, Pleiades, Senjyo, Solomon's Key, Star Force, and Tecmo Cup. Most of the classics may be familiar to retro gamers but here's a quick summary:

Bomb Jack - Gather bombs by flitting from platform to platform
Pinball Action - Rudimentary pinball with a fiery-maned lady as center artwork.
Pleiades - Shooter which shamelessly borrows from Galaxian and Phoenix.
Senjyo - Commandeer a cannon and shoot at tanks and UFOs in the distance.
Solomon's Key - Use magic to create/dissolve blocks to escape levels.
Star Force -
Fast moving vertical shooter with grating music and sound effects.
Tecmo World Cup -
Overhead view soccer simulation. Very addictive.
