Based on the "Arrivederci Space Cruiser Yamato:
Soldiers Of Love" movie (circa August 1978), the
storyline in the second PS2 Yamato game hews closely
to the original work.
The year is 2201 and Earth is rebuilding after the costly war with
the Gamilons. Utilizing the technology given to them
by Iskander, the Earth Defense Force has set up new
protective measures to counter any future threats.
In addition to fortifying the planet, Earth's
expeditionary forces have explored and colonized the
outer planets in the solar system. The ultimate
prize of the technological revolution is a new
battleship called the Andromeda. With a new vanguard
ship, the Yamato is to be decommissioned and turned
into a museum.
Amidst all the fanfare, a comet is detected at the edge of the
solar system and a garbled message is intercepted by
Kodai. Reporting the anomalies to the EDF, Kodai and
Sanada are brushed away but the two are determined
to head off any potential threat before it's too
late. The original bridge crew of the Yamato are
called together and all decide to launch the Yamato
into service once again...with or without the
blessing of the EDF. As the Yamato closes in on the
moon, the Cosmo Tigers zoom into view and join the
Yamato in its exploratory mission. After a few
skirmishes and a visit to Telezart for information,
the Yamato eventually battles a powerful new enemy
led by Emperor Zordar to decide the future of the
Earth.
Played in strategic missions and peppered with a large amount of
interactive scenarios, the second PS2 Yamato game
also features 3-D run 'n gun action where players
take control of various Yamato crew members and
shoot at foes using a cosmo gun. Rush through
corridors by twiddling the left Dual Shock
thumbstick and aim by hitting the L1 trigger. Once
locked, tapping the R1 trigger sends out a blast.
The first production of Space Battleship Yamato 2 includes:
- BGM collection music CD
- Hardcover SPY Design Works book - sketches of
spaceships, character art
