Ichigo Kurosaki sees dead people. After a
confrontation with five youths over an offering to a
ghost girl who had died at a spot, he attracts the
interest of an observant visitor. After the
incident, Ichigo returns home only to enter another
confrontation with his father over his curfew. Since
poppy doesn't know about his special sight, Ichigo's
sisters have to explain that he's been under a lot
of stress lately because of the preponderance of
spirits who are visiting him for voluntary
exorcisms.
The next day, Ichigo returns to the spot of the ghost girl with
another offering when he notices a massive insect
chasing her down. Leaping into action, he runs
alongside her in a helpless maneuver but lends some
emotional support of sorts. Just as the insect is
about to turn Ichigo into one of the dead, a quick
and deadly lady warrior jumps between Ichigo and the
savage beast and destroys it. Later that night,
Ichigo meets the warrior lady formally and she
introduces herself as
Kuchiki Rukia,
a shinigami or soul reaper. She teaches Ichigo about
the two types of spirits in the world - the pluses
and the hollows. Her job is to lead the pluses into
a place called the Soul Society and to destroy the
hollows such as the insect that she banished earlier
in the day. As the two are talking, a blood curdling
screech sounds through Ichigo's house and his little
sister Yuzu informs the two that something weird is
happening. Running downstairs, Ichigo and the
shinigami meet a hollow who wounds the shinigami.
Making a pact with Ichigo to save themselves, she
transfers her power to Ichigo which makes him a
shinigami. When he emerges, Ichigo uses his newly
burnished soul cutter to split the hollow in two...
Bleach for the PSP follows the storyline of the animation and six
characters from the series are playable including
Ichigo Kurosaki, Rukia Kuchiki, Uryu Ishida, Orihime
Inoue, Yasutora Sado, and Abarai Renji. The
animation quality in the game is impressive and
we've been pausing the game every now and then to
admire the beautiful artwork. Game modes include a
Story Mode for every character, Survival Mode, and a
Time Attack Mode for some variety offset the small
roster of playable fighters.
