Cooperative play allows two players to fly 'n shoot simultaneously and score multipliers are shared when collecting bonus medallions. Two video settings are available - an original mode where the screen is spread out wider or arcade mode which mimics the vertical aspect ratio of the coin-op more faithfully.

Phantasy Star Generation 2 also features new animation sequences, updated musical scores for added drama, and dazzling special effects on the battlefield. Similar to all Sega Ages 2500 games, Sega includes a little leaflet which details the history of Phantasy Star 2.

The Saturn controller was perfect in design, shape, and function. Instead of dreaming up the UFO-shaped Dreamcast pad, Sega should have just stuck with the Saturn pad on the DC. With a new (and most importantly, a very large) generation of PS2 gamers to addict, Sega goes back to the well and reissues the perfect pad... this time for the PS2. Sadly, Sega packages the pad in wasteful plastic packaging when cardboard would have sufficed.

Construction quality is sturdy with nary a creak when moving the stick from table to lap and then to tabletop again. A thin metal plate serves as the base/bottom of the stick which adds additional weight and stability.
   NCS Advisory: When wearing shorts or thin pants, be sure to place a cloth on your lap before putting the stick down since the metal is bone-chilling on naked flesh.
