PS2 Tales of Symphonia - New Import

Chosen by the Fates to save her world from certain destruction, Colette Brunel and her friend Lloyd Irving embark on an adventure of mass proportions. The supply of Mana in the world is waning precariously and Colette must find a way to refuel it before catastrophe occurs. Strong character development and the well scripted dialogue between characters provide an interesting subtext against the overall storyline.

The battle system in Symphonia gives manual control over a lead hero such as Lloyd while three comrades are guided by the sensible whims of the programming. Powerful combination attacks may also be enacted for 100+ hits against bosses and other hardened beasts.

Symphonia's lead is a sword fighter named Lloyd who is supported by good friends Colette and Genius in an adventure to save their world. In a wicked twist of sorts, in order to ensure that their little globe survives and prospers, a mirror world must be undermined and destroyed...

Our first impressions of the game are very favorable. We tend to avoid fights whenever possible since many adventure games have tedious battle systems. Tales of Symphonia offers a fine action-based real-time battle system that has been honed and refined from the system found in previous Tales game which one can look forward to. Namco calls it the "Multi-Line Linear Motion Battle System" which allows different characters in your team to stand on the same line of attack as an opponent and fight within that groove or boundary. Some adventure games tend to have a long, drawn out introduction which lays down the groundwork but Symphonia draws players into the action immediately and releases bits of the story as the game goes along. We're enjoying the game and we'll post more thoughts as we go along.
