The limited edition of Rilakkuma Ojama Shitemasu 2 Shuukan includes
a bulky Rilakkuma plush which measures a big and fat 10" tall by roughly
10" wide. It's practically circular. Rila's fur is of the smooth, satiny
variety which makes him a suitable companion when napping, snuggling, or
relaxing...

On the heels of the slovenly, sloth-like Tarepanda,
San-X's latest lazy bones is a bear named Rilakkuma
which translates to Relax Bear. Drop in on Rilakkuma
and he's often lying down, eating sweets, listening
to music, and generally taking his time. Masaru
Saneshige, managing director at SAN-X says,
"Japanese characters feature a sort of gentleness.
They make people feel cozy and a little happy.
That's the secret of their popularity."
True to form, Hello Kitty, Tarepanda, and Rilakkuma are devoid of
sharp edges. They're completely rounded and
innocuous... no bad streak at all and pure as fresh
snow. Rilakkuma rolls with a two friends, a girl
bear that's colored tan and a fat chick (the avian
kind) who hinges on Rilakkuma's every move and
encourages him to be more active.
In the PS2 game that bears its name, Rilakkuma and crew engage in
mini-games which reflect Rila's inclination for
eating, lounging, and exerting as little effort as
possible. In one game, players wait for a spigot to
be at the right place before dropping syrup on
pancakes. The spigot moves to and fro and one must
dollop at the right time to hit the surface of the
pancake. Once splattered, the pancake is shoved onto
Relakuma's plate for the bear to nosh. Once a
pancake flies onto Rilakkuma's plate, the monster
dips fork, spikes cake, and hefts it into mouth in
one fluid motion.
Other games
• The fat chick throws little pats of butter
onto pancakes for the Rilakkuma to eat.
• Use a disembodied hand to open up Rilakkuma's
zipper without waking him up.
• Throw crumpled paper into a red trashcan. A
floating yellow arrow serves as an aiming mechanism.
A bunch of cookies are on Rila's left side and if he
drops some paper into the can, his left hand shoots
out to grab a cookie. If he misses, there is no
nosh.
• Girl-bear and chick try to grill a fish to
perfection.
• Girl-bear balances a dessert on top of a
plate and tries to land the whole shebang on a table
while chick cheers on.
