Pooka and Fygar dust off their hides and are back
to battle a new generation of diggers. Massive
monsters are raising a ruckus and an urgent call
goes out to Susumu Hori aka Mr Driller. The original
Dig Dugger, Taizou Hori, intercepts the message and
thinks to himself, "I'm not dead yet, I can do
everything that whippersnapper of a son can do!" (or
something like that) and heads off to battle
monsters in Susumu's stead.
In the NDS update of a retro classic, the top screen depicts a
bird's eye view of the level while the lower screen
shows off the action from a side view... or an ant's
eye scope. Taizou battles minor henchmen such as
Pooka and Fygar but the ultimate goal is to destroy
the entire island and subsequently the monster
overhead by releasing gigantic red spikes that are
holding the land mass together. Once the fault lines
are loosed and crumbling, the entire chunk of land
on the side of the fault plunges into the ocean.
Plan properly and the monster will slip into the sea
as well. Along with a versatile pump which snakes out to
puncture and inflate monsters, a variety of objects
scattered underground may also be used to destroy
creatures including bombs that are triggered once Taizou walks through them, moving mines, and rocks
that plunge upon pursuers once they're loosened.
Hori may also dig out tunnels to allow water,
quicksand, and lava to flow freely. Fragments of
items may also be located to unlock new stages and
retrieve special power-ups which allow Hori to call
upon Susumu who provides air support by dropping
ordnance on the rampaging monster.
Two players may face off in head-to-head action where gamers pump
each other up. One player controls Taizou while the other
takes hold of Ataru Hori, another son of Taizou. Two mini-game parodies are included in the game: Horivalou which is
a take on Solvalou of Xevious fame and Hori X, a
remake of Rally X. A total of 15 stages split into
80 levels are featured in the game. |
