GC Viewtiful Joe Battle Carnival JPN

GC Viewtiful Joe Battle Carnival - New Import
When Captain Blue starts work on a new film, the available talent pool is overwhelming. To help the wizened movie producer make the right choice for lead actor, a casting call goes out which pits a motley assortment of spandex wearing misfits against each other on multi-tiered movie sets.

The action runs hot when up to four players battle it out in in fast moving and chaotic bouts. The speed may lead to instances of confusion where one can't discern the whereabouts of an onscreen hero when he's con mingled with everything else that's happening on screen. Along with the heroes, there are coins that sprinkle around, hamburgers, flying creatures, and explosive effects galore. We figure that's show business.

The aspiring action heroes fight on tiered arenas where there's the ground and then platforms that loft them higher for multi-height fighting. Jump up to the second tier and them jump down on a lower level enemy. On some levels, objects and machines will enter the picture for added diversion.

NDS Dai Gassou Expansion JPN

NDS Dai Gassou! Band Bros Zoukakyoku Cart - New Import
Become a member of a band whose sole purpose is the timely contribution to the encompassing music. Dai Gassou Band Bros is a music rhythm game which makes use of the NDS' controls - hit the proper cues as they are triggered onscreen and contribute to a harmonious melody. Botch the rhythm however and foment discord.

To extend the life of the original Dai Gassou game, Nintendo asked visitors to their website for their votes on which songs to include in a special expansion cart. The people voted and 31 new songs are crammed into a Gameboy Advance cart which have been culled from J-Pop and familiar game music selections.

NDS Touch Game Party JPN

NDS Touch Game Party - New Import
A collection of simple games such as Darts, Concentration, Reversi (aka Othello), and more. Use the stylus for precision pointing control and tap to success. In Concentration, an assortment of 40 cards are placed face down on a green table and one must flip them over two at a time to find matches. Find a match and the game rewards the players with a "O" and the cards bubble away while another turn is granted. Botch it and a blaring "X" appears. Reversi is played on an 8x8 grid where one player uses white smiley face markers and the other uses black smileys. The rules are standard where one flips over the faces by planting same-color coins at each end of a row of faces to flip them.

PS2 Keroro Gunsou Best JPN

PS2 Keroro Gunsou Mero Mero Battle Royale - New Import
Debuting in Monthly Shonen Ace in 1999, Yoshigiki Mine's manga explored the relationship between a conquering frog from space and his seemingly normal human adopters. Or something like that.
Keroro Gunso (translation: Frog General), leader of the Space Invasion Forces Special Advance Team of the 58th Planet of the Gamma Storm Cloud System goes on a reconnaissance mission to Earth in order to learn more about the blue orb before an invasion proper commences. Unfortunately for him, he is caught by two members of the Hinata household. Despite some early strife, Keroro and human siblings Fuyuki and Natsumi Hinata become friends... or in the case of Natsumi and Keroro, master and servant.

The PS2 Keroro game plays like a Smash Bros of sorts where characters such as Keroro, Angoru Moa, Giroro Gochou, the Hinatas, and others complete in battle games, button mashing challenges, and other simple exercises that won't tax cognitive skills. Little humorous references to Gundam and other manga/anime properties pepper the mini-games to make fanatical gamers familiar with various shows smile and nod in recognition.

PS2 Richard Burns Rally JPN

PS2 Richard Burns Rally - New Import
It's been four years since Richard Burns won the 2001 World Rally Championship but he's still the UK's head honcho when it comes to rally driving. Under his tutelage, attend the Rally School in order to learn the ways and means to winning rally races, virtual style. Once familiar with the driving techniques, sit in one of eight officially licensed Rally cars and tackle 36 tracks around the world which reflect the reality of harsh roads and uncompromising conditions.
Released over a year ago in Europe, Richard Burns Rally thrills NTSC rally racing fiends with a yen for realism and tight-gripped control. Motor down a road and listen to the roar of the engine as it growls and goes through rattling death throes as choked out by a hard driving charger behind the wheel. Bumps and rocks on the road will send the car undulating while weather effects provide different conditions to drive through.

New to the Japanese PS2 version of Richard Burns Rally is the ability to skip training and barrel into Rally Season immediately for better or worse. A beginner mode is also built in for tyros.

PSP Guilty Gear XX #Reload JPN

PSP Guilty Gear XX #Reload - New Import
The fast pacing and sharp detailing of the Guilty Gear franchise reaches the PSP intact. Controls are solid with the D-pad preferable for executing precise moves but the analog pad may be used by experts who are looking for a challenging slippery control mechanism with which to pull off special attacks and combos. Graphics are crisp with sharp clean lines and smooth animation as fighters hit, counter-hit, guard, and perform multi-hit combos in fluid motion. While the game steams along, the fighters wil remark, scream, and utter various grunts throughout the swordplay. Potemkin is a huge fighter but the bruiser animates well but while every other fighter can perform a dash by double tapping left or right, Potemkin has no such briskness. In addition to the ground dash, fighters may also perform an air dash once they're aloft. Jump and simply double tap to close the distance. A Tension Gauge sits beneath each fighter and increases gradually as attacks, blocks, and actions are performed during the course of battle. The amount of tension allows the performance of special Overdrive attacks, cancels, and other tricks.

Characters are a varied lot with the shapeshifter Eddie constantly changing from seeming normal human to shadowy wraith to winged goblin, Venom who wears a mask with the Eye of Osiris on top and battles with a blue / white pool cue, and the otherworldly Zappa who fights with a team of ectoplasmic warriors and vomits projectile matter from his back.

PSP Pinball JPN

 PSP Pinball - New Import
Pinball is a vertical aspect simulation. Pinball games simulated on computers and consoles have always been played on horizontal aspect televisions which are wider than they are tall. This made the pinball tables squat or in the case of scrolling screen tables, the entire length of the table would never been seen and only the active portion would be visible at any one point. Shooters have enjoyed vertical aspect accommodations where monitors are rotated 90 degrees clockwise for a lengthy screen. With the 16:9 aspect ratio of the PSP screen, it's a snap to rotate it 90° for vertical length games such as shooters and pinball sims. The PSP also weighs under a half kilo which makes it easier to rotate than a WEGA.

Once vertical, the face buttons are used to move the flippers which slap the pinball at various targets such as spinners, bumpers, holes, and other staples from the world of pinball. Two tables are available in Pinball - Forest of the Fortune Teller and The Morphing Avenger. In the Forest, there's occult symbolism in play with tarot cards from the Major Arcana, mystical artwork, and the Fortune Teller is located at the top of the screen. The Avenger board is modeled after a Las Vegas theme with glittering buildings, a silhouetted showgirl, and artwork which depicts a white-suited playboy directly in front of the flippers. In addition to solo pinball action, a 2-player mode is playable where participants compete for the slapping of the pinball.
