When Captain Blue starts work on a new film, the
available talent pool is overwhelming. To help the
wizened movie producer make the right choice for
lead actor, a casting call goes out which pits a
motley assortment of spandex wearing misfits against
each other on multi-tiered movie sets.
The action runs hot when up to four players battle it out in in fast
moving and chaotic bouts. The speed may lead to
instances of confusion where one can't discern the
whereabouts of an onscreen hero when he's con
mingled with everything else that's happening on
screen. Along with the heroes, there are coins that
sprinkle around, hamburgers, flying creatures, and
explosive effects galore. That's show
business.
The aspiring action heroes fight on tiered arenas where there's the
ground and then platforms that loft them higher for
multi-height fighting. Jump up to the second tier
and them jump down on a lower level enemy. On some
levels, objects and machines will enter the picture
for added diversion.
The cast includes:
Aquatic Terror Gran Bruce
Blade Master Alastor
Captain Blue
Captain Blue Junior
Dark Emperor Black
Dark Fiend Charles the 3rd
Iron Ogre Hulk Davidson
Coordinator Sprocket
Sexy Sylvia
Viewtiful Joe
When an opponent is smacked, coins are dropped which are then
gathered and accumulated to activate special
Viewtiful powers. To trigger them, hit the L or R
trigger for mach speed, slow motion, and zoom. Slow
motion waxes everything to an oozing crawl for a few
seconds before regaining normal speed and time. With
Mach Speed, time fast-forwards for a more frenetic
fighting experience. Zoom - camera focuses in on an
enlarged character who then proceeds to whup ass on
normal sized foes. The fourth effect is abbreviated
S.E. for Sound Effect which is a powerful distance
attack.
Two players may also team up for a momentary special attack where
the camera pans in to show the action in a
director's cut close-up. The two heroes stand on
both sides of an immobilized victim and pummel it
with a rapid fire volley of punches before a coup de
grace finishes the show. D-Pad + Button slapping mini-games
also pop up where two fighters stand face to face
and perform attacks on each other.
Battles take place on simple sets, tall buildings, a western shanty
prop, a falling assemblage of steel girders, in a
cavern with stalagmites, or on a hell bent rickety
red biplane where the characters duke it out atop
the airborne vehicle while it courses through
dizzying scenery. |
