Drift kings take to the road for masterful sliding
and sideways maneuvers where cars move in ways they
were never made to move. Yukes updates the D1 Grand
Prix game with 2005 driver data, over 60 cars to
manhandle as well as tune for improved performance, and a large amount of
professional courses to drift upon.
Courses in the game include:
Fuji Drift Course - Length 630m ~ 700m. Trees
on the side and mountains in the distance. a few
orange cones. There are three major curves perfect
for drifting hi jinks in an otherwise
straightforward oval-shaped course. Casual.
Ebisu Circuit - Length 1200m. Located in
Fukushima Prefecture where many drifters cut their
teeth in the sport of drifting. There are screeching
turns for power drifters to slide on.
Nikko Circuit - Length 1,100m. Located in
Tochigi Prefecture and perfect for high speed
drifting. The scenery features high energy towers on
the side of the road, rocky scenery and
straight-aways mixed with gnarly turns.
Buhoku Highland Circuit - Length 1,100m.
Tight corners and sweeping curves for long distance
drifts as one slides across the road.
Sugo Kart Course - Length 3,704m. An undulating
road which makes for a bumpy ride with contrived
corners. One of the most challenging courses in the
game for its level of difficulty and exhausting
curves.
Tsukuba Circuit - Length 2,045m. Set inside
metropolitan city and famous for conventional
racing. Features three demanding 180 degree curves
and two less demanding swerves.
Dec Sekiahills Circuit - Length 1,000m.
Located within a theme park in Kushu with a thick
swath of trees on the side of the road. The track is
shaped like the letter "E" which makes it a tough
track to maneuver through.
Fuji Speedway 2003 - Length 4,470m. Opened in
1995 and set in Mount Fuji with a manicured grounds
and stadium seating for spectators.
Irwindale Speedway - Length 800m. Located in
Southern California - when the D1GP was held there,
30,000 spectators thronged the circuit to the
surprise of the judges who figured out that drifting
had become a mini sensation in the States.
Autopolis - Length 4,674m. The only JAF
recognized circuit in Kyushu. A beauty of a course
for drifters who chains their drifts together for
seamless sliding sequences. There are three
straight-aways for regaining composure before flying
through the drifts once again.
Daiba - Length unknown. Shaped like a
dinosaur that's eating grass. Erstwhile course set
in Odaiba with a city serving as backgroup.
Sugo International - Length 3,737m.
International races such as Formlua Japan, All Japan
GT Championship, All Japan Road Racing Championship
are held here. Located in Tohoku.
Fuji Speedway 2005 - Length 4,563m.
Redecorated and remodeled in 2005 to accommodate
international races. The course is shaped like an
upside-down clothes hanger that has been twisted out
of shape.

NCS Game Notes
* The intro to the game shows a pair of cars
sliding in synchronicity before shifting to various
cars on tracks as they drift.
* In the main game, the original, 2001-2005 series
of D1 races may be played.
* Only 20 out of a possible 36 drivers are available
at the outset. If you attempt to highlight a secret
driver, "yellow SECRET tape is plastered over the
guy's stats".
* Three commentators on the bottom left of the
screen comment on performance throughout a run. If
you're driving poorly, they'll literally ice up to
indicate how cold your performance is. |
