NDS The Block Kuzushi JPN

NDS Simple DS Series Vol. 4: The Block Kuzushi - New Import

Taito re-engineered the "Breakout" game with Arkanoid in the late 80s and their D3 Publisher subsidiary continues the paddle-meet-ball tradition with The Block Kuzushi on the NDS. Already a popular Simple Series game on the PS1 and PS2, Kuzushi features standard fare where colored blocks are broken by batting a ball at them. Use the stylus to guide the paddle to slap the ball, pick up power-ups and endure the levels. In addition to the Standard Game, there's also a Survival Mode where up to eight players may participate and a Quest Mode where bricks and bosses are similarly smashed with the ball. Similar to Arkanoid, there are different types of bricks such as the standard colored brick which is destroyed with one hit, steel bricks which require multiple hits, and other barriers.

NDS Viewtiful Joe Scratch! JPN

NDS Viewtiful Joe Scratch! - New Import

Capcom adapts the Viewtiful Joe shenanigans for use on the stylus strapped Nintendo DS. As the story goes, a bunch of malcontents steal Captain Blue's new movie and it's up to Joe to get into costume and retrieve it. In addition to the bad guys, Joe has a pseudo nemesis in his little squabbling sister Jasmine, who has her sights on becoming a movie queen. Stages in the game are modeled after movie studio sets such as the Super Coaster, Restaurant Volcano, and Action Stadium.
Joe wields a new VFX power called "Split" or "V-Camera" which allows the player to edit the scene or splice the film to give Joe a helping hand. Split opportunities are clearly indicated on a level by purple letters which spell "Split." VFX Slow, V-Dodge, and Scratch are also available powers <more>

PS2 Langrisser III JPN

PS2 Langrisser III  + Bonus Art Booklet - New Import
Originally released for the Japanese Sega Saturn back in September 1996, Taito revives the game for another go on the PS2. In Langrisser III, players take the role of an aspiring knight with super-spiky hair named Diharuto Krauss. As the game begins, winged hawk knights from the Raucus Kingdom mount an attack inside the Flying Castle and it's up to Diharuto, Tiaris, Jeriou, Wiriamu, and foot soldiers under their command to fight back. The enemy leader named Arutemvuraa is on a quest to destroy a crystal in the Flying Castle and Diharuto just has to survive the waves of enemies until the crystal is cracked. The battle is fought in a tactical theater where Diharuto and Tiaris are controlled by the player but allies are completely CPU controlled. The player has no precise control of the battles however - it is only possible to select an attack and then watch the battle play out as offense and defense is plied by both sides. After the level is completed, Tiaris asks Diharuto a number of questions and his answers will affect her affinity towards him. The questions are important because near the end of the game, the amount of affinity that a girl feels towards Diharuto will affect who he ends up with as a love interest. There are five potential mates in the game: Tiaris, Furea, Rifanii, Luna, and Sofia. <more>

PS2 Memories Off Togireta JPN

To recover from the shock and dismay, fellow film students, the sister of the fallen artist, and other characters engage the protagonist and help him find his footing again. Similar to a standard interactive adventure, Memories Off plays in flick-screen action where spot animations accompany static images while reams of text fill the dialogue box on the bottom of the screen.
Upon starting the game, a dandy in a red double-breasted suit is walking while cherry blossoms flutter to the ground. The protagonist joins him in a similar red jacket and then a girl joins the two as they walk from school followed by a fourth classmate. Once home, the protagonist is visited by Samasuke's younger sister Asuka, who is dressed in a school uniform and microskirt. Asuka confides to Haruhito that a girl named Mahiro Sendou caused Samasuke's demise. After some banter, a 60-minute Mini-DV tape is located which contains a short film collaboration between Haruhito and Samasuke which was not completed due to Sam's untimely death. Will the film ever get completed? Did Mahiro Sendou cause Samasuke's death? Can mojo be recovered? Only you can answer those questions when <more>

PSP Mobile Police Patlabor JPN

PSP Mobile Police Patlabor: Camubaku MiniPato - New Import
Based on the three 10-minute parodies of the Patlabor animation called MiniPato, Director Kenji Kamiyama and writer Mamoru Oshii created a whimsical take on the overly serious Patlabor drama. The characters in MiniPato consist of colorful paper cutouts that have been glued to chopsticks. Watch in amazement as paper based renditions of Captain Goto, Shigeo Shiba, and Captain Nagumo speak with authority on Patlabor weaponry, Patlabor Model 98 AV Ingram mechanical designs, and the secret of Section 2's cooking area. Introspective, self deferential, and frivolous, MiniPato inspires a PSP game which follows in its footsteps.

Borrowing the design sensibilities of the MiniPato series, the PSP game features characters on chopsticks who work to convince the populace that the Tokyo Metropolitan Police Department isn't as uncaring and incompetent as conventional wisdom dictates. The citizenry has threatened to dismantle the entire department if things don't improve. As crime cases reach the Patlabor team members, players go out and engage in various mini-games to solve crimes by shooting thugs, exploring platform levels, and solving simple puzzles. Since everyone in the game is a paper cutout on a chopstick, characters flip and spin with aplomb as they interact with each other for comical theatrics. When shooting at menacing robots in the distance, they will spin and flip for a different type of visual effect from the usual drop-dead response.
