NCS Game Synopsis
©NCS:
Last year, Kamen Rider Blade was the rage on
Japanese television. This year, viewers
feasted their eyes on Kamen Rider Hibiki. The latest
masked rider known as Hibiki leaps into battle with
a pair of red ongeki-bou sticks that are ready to beat.
Fellow Riders Ibuki and Todoro join in as a support
corps when Hibiki needs assistance. Battling evil with both style and drumbeat rhythm, Hibiki looks more like a godfather of S&M than an
action hero. A 1-Player mode pits Hibiki and cohorts
against an assemblage of foes while a 2-Player mode
allows for tag-team battles as well as cooperative
play. As various foes receive their smack downs,
special data items are unlocked in the gallery
portion of the game disc.

NCS Game Notes™
* The intro shows a couple of evil henchmen chasing
Hibiki through a forest setting as the masked
warrior races away. Eventually Hibiki stops, spins
around, and confronts the two by smacking them down
with his ongeki-bou sticks and drumbeat rhythm
motion. Sequences showing his two cohorts are also
interspliced in the intro including the Todoro who
fights with a guitar-shaped spear called Retsurai
and Ibuki who shoots with a gold-colored pistol in
his right hand.
* Battles are well executed with fast paced moves
and combination attacks. Rolling maneuvers are also
available to the Hibiki. There are 1-on-1 bouts but
1-vs-2 henchmen bouts are also available. Although
there's a fair amount of reticence by the second
enemy when the first enemy is attacking, the game
engine does prompt the two to attack at once for a
fairly good challenge. There are times when the two
attack in synchronized motion and they'll use
different tactics such as projectile attacks,
attacking from both sides, and attacking together
from the same side. To counter his foes, Hibiki can
blow out a flame attack from his mouth and also
swing a flaming sword.
* A 1P game pits Hibiki against an array of enemies.
Before he enters battle, he rotates the ongeki
sticks in both hands. After the intro starts, he
dings a tuning fork against a tree, holds it to his
forehead and eventually changes into Hibiki. Two
black/gold suited and masked warriors are the first
opponents.
* The controls are as follows
D-pad - movement, note that the L-analog
cannot be used
X - Swings out both ongeki sticks for an
attack. After each use, Hibiki hitches them back up
to his utility belt. Pressing the D-pad in different
directions while pressing X will cause Hibiki to
perform ongeki beat attacks in various fancy ways
including a spinning attack where he leaps up and
then crashes down in a thunderous move.
SQUARE - Get into a defensive stance to block
blows and projectiles
TRIANGLE - If pressed alone, Hibiki blows out
a white-hot flame from his mouth. When an the D-pad
is moved left or right and then TRIANGLE is pressed,
Hibiki will perform a power-punch with claws
extended. Press up and TRIANGLE and he'll swing out
a flaming sword for an upper cut attack.
CIRCLE - Side swiping smack attack. Keep
pressing CIRCLE in sequence and Hibiki will perform
a full repertoire of moves using all of his weapons
and skills.
* Once the masked enemies are defeated, an animation
shows a massive yellow spider running into the
battlefield. Once the second level starts, the
spider is so large that it fills up more than the
entirety the screen as its legs extend right into
Hibiki's side. Hibiki can jump on top of the
spider's thorax and abdomen or battle from below its
body. The spider attacks with globs of silk and can
be damaged when Hibiki punches behind its mouth
pincer, attacks it's abdomen, and blasts its tail.
Unfortunately the spider isn't much of a challenge
and it will strike at empty air while Hibiki goes to
town on it.
* Before the spider is killed, Hibiki leaps on top
of the spider, affixes a disk on top of its thorax
and then proceeds to play a rhythm drumbeat game.
Purple spheres enter the screen from the left and
right towards a circle in the center. As the spheres
hit the circle, press the O button to pound the
drumsticks on the spider to damage it further.
Eventually, the many drumbeats will cause the spider
to expire.
* After the Hibiki fighting bouts, the game
continues with a battle between the Kamen Rider
Ibuki who wields a gold gun against two spooky
looking warriors.
* There are a total of seven game modes - the story
mode will only allow the use of Hibiki as the
default character but the other modes will open up
the three Kamen riders and an enemy - the black/gold
suited henchmen from earlier. There are a total of
13 fighters in the game but only 4 are available at
the outset - the three Kamen Riders and the
henchmen.
* In the Press START screen where Hibiki
stands on top of a ledge, one of two creatures
appear to his right including a flapping bird and a
little green munchkin who flaps his arms up and
down. The stalks in the foreground also weave to and
fro.
* In the Loading Screen, pressing any button on the
controller will change the rotating disc on the
lower right portion of the screen will change it
into a flying bird or a golem-like creature.
