GBA Hudson Collection Vol. 1: Bomberman Collection - New

NCS Game Synopsis
©NCSX▪ Motor through a top-down viewed maze and lay bombs to dislodge pursuers from their skeletons. In the case of Bomberman, the pursuers consist of assorted blobs and bubblegum-colored light bulbs that open their eyes wide when an explosive shard cuts through their hides. Power-ups may be revealed by blowing up walls which enable Bomberman to lay down more bombs and chain them together for wide area blasting.

Bomberman Collection includes the original Famicom versions of Bomberman and Bomberman 2.

In the original Bomberman which was released in 1985, Hudson introduced gamers to a bomb laying warrior who planted bombs to destroy maze-roaming creatures in hot pursuit. From these humble beginnings, Hudson built an enduring franchise which has since sprouted off into video gaming variants such as Bomberman racing, mini-games and adventuring.

In the first level, Bomberman traipses inside a scrolling maze filled with brick walls and combustible barriers. Bombs placed next to the barriers will blow them up and pave the way for passage or to reveal powerups. The monsters consist of bubble-gum colored balloon creatures at first but when one reveals a door and then blows it up, little water colored creatures emerge which run around in haphazard fashion.

Bomberman's blast radius only spans 1 block all-around in the beginning which can't do much but picking up flame powerups increases the radius to something more substantial. There's only 200 seconds to complete the first level which is cutting it close because the player must locate the exit door and destroy every monster before exiting. Once Bomberman picks up three bomb icons and at least two flame icons, the game takes on a new dimension because chained explosions and wide area destruction is possible once the man is sufficiently powered up.
