PS2 Devil Summoner: Kuzunoha Raidou - New Import

NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX» "Please kill me..." pleads the girl but before anyone can perform a quick and painless slaughter at the Kuzunoha Detective Agency, she is spirited away by kidnappers. Who was the girl and what was the reason for her strange request? Fast forward 20 years and Kuzunoha Raidou is chasing a seemingly normal thug on a street. As the thug is cornered, his body shudders forward and strange appendages begin growing from his body until he's transformed into a demon. A demon that attacks. After being blown back, Kuzunoha Raidou removes an innocuous looking instrument from his coat and summons a mighty demon which bellows a blast at the demonic target. Just when it seems the battle has been won, Kuzunoha Raidou slowly turns around to confront a mighty force of suited sword wielding soldiers...

Devil Summoner takes place in a dark and tempered post WWI Japan when industry took hold
and the nation was on its way to becoming the second largest economy on the planet. Raidou is the 14th detective Devil Summoner to work in the family business. While Raidou doesn't have any remarkable offensive power of his own, his summoning abilities marshal mighty demons to his side to fight for the cause. Battles are fought in real time with full blown action along with summons which light up the screen and help with combination attacks and unilateral offensive blasts.

NCS Game Notes
* In the intro to the game, Raidou is chasing a thug and the camera switches between the two and a cat which watches the action from above. Kitty is seated at a window while its owner inside is making matchstick structures indoors. Unable to contain its excitement at the chase below, the cat leaps downwards, crashes the matchstick pagoda, and joins Raidou pace for pace and they corner the thug. Unable to climb walls or disappear into thin air, the thug does the next best thing - he transforms into a demonic Daredevil-like creature. The policeman removes a summoning trigger from his jacket and slips it open, which causes it to light up with shimmering illumination and summons a mightier demon who attacks the thug-turned-demon and knocks it down. Images flash of other characters in the game before turning back to the scene at hand. A bunch of menacing soldiers line up behind Raidou and appear ready for battle as they draw their swords. Raidou lowers his head and raises his hands which hold a total of 8 summoning triggers which begin shimmering. Intro ends.

* After pressing START, the following options appear:

LOAD GAME
NEW GAME
DUAL SHOCK ON/OFF

* Start a new game and another intro starts where a gnarled tree is the centerpiece with two torches in front of it as the camera sways downwards. Raidou is bowing in front of the tree and his uniform is laid out with his sword and a gun. After a naming ceremony, Raidou appears all decked out in his uniform as he swishes on his cape and rushes off to do battle with the forces of darkness.

* In the first action sequence once control is handed over to the player, a training session begins where the basics of movement and battle are taught. Encounters take place in a separate screen where the player is given full movement and control of Raidou. The game controls:

L-Analog / Run around
D-pad / Run around
SQUARE / Sword attack
TRIANGLE / Gun attack
X BUTTON / Guard
R1 TRIGGER / Help menu and options

* The action plays like a hack 'n slasher except that the screen doesn't scroll and the immediate area of the temporary arena is all that Raidou has to roam around in. Movement is fast and fully controlled by the player where Raidou runs here, sidles there, and shoots followed by slashes at enemies. There are no statistical rolls of the die here to determine victory, just your action-packed sword hand

* To perform a lightning fast dash attack, move the L-analog or d-pad in concert with the SQUARE button and your man will rush forward so quickly that he leaves light trails as he rams into a foe with sword stretched before him. Pressing and holding SQUARE then releasing will ignite a spinning whirlwind attack where Raidou's sword smacks everyone that's around him.

* The first training session foes appear to be WWI-era pimps of some sort. They're dressed in brown fedoras and pink-colored kimonos that are pinched at the waist with sashes. Both wear wooden shoes and shuffle like the walking undead while their blue skin and undead manner are discomforting to watch. Shoot them and green blood jets away from their bodies while sword slashes release pools of green ochre. After defeating another pair of pimps, the next battle pits Raidou against a demonic imp who wields a fiery spear weapon. Every gunshot and slash attack causes the demon to erupt a few quarts of blood which explode outwards with each blow. The little imp blows out fire and appears menacing but it's a lightweight. Raidou has two bullets for his gun at this point, a standard bullet and an ice bullet that momentarily freezes the target so you can rush in for the kill.
