Sena Kobayakawa is the archetypal underdog. Scrawny
and seemingly of low mien, Sena attracts the
attention of three bullies known as the Hah-Hah
Brothers. The thugs detect Sena's softness and
exploit it like masterful leeches. With a daily
harangue and a litany of abuse, the Hah-Hah boys
send Sena on errands and expect him to run like
Hermes. Sena's underdog stature changes slightly
when he goes to Deimon High School where he meets a
fanatical blonde named Yoichi Hiruma - he of the
irrational gun play and a gentle giant named Ryokan
Kurita. Sena is inducted into the Devil Bats
Football Team and finds that the Hah-Hah Brothers'
abusive ways have given him the gift of speed and
dexterity, something that any football team needs in
a quarterback...
After shipping Eyeshield 21 games on the Playstation 2 and Nintendo
DS, Konami releases a PSP version where the focus is
on football themed mini-games. Not just a few
mini-games but over 70 of them that all invariably
involve the pigskin and all of the athletics and
antics associated with the grid-iron. The Hah-Hah
brothers also provide angst and comical fodder. The
key to a successful season is training and players
will engage in running, tackling, throwing, kicking,
and passing in order to hone a team from slovenly
slackers to surgically precise athletes. Five teams
from the original animation are featured in the game
as follows: Ohjo White Knights, Zokugaku Chameleons,
Taiyo Sphinx, Seibu Wild Gunmans, and the Devil
Bats. |
