Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Soon after booting the NDS with Cocoto Kart
inserted, a delightful red demon in a red sports car
appears under the title of the game. The demon has a
wild bug-eyed demeanor about it that may scare away
furry animals and kindergartners. Start the game and a driver select
screen appears where eight creatures may be selected
as your racer. There's the red demon from earlier,
an orange haired girl that appears human, a green
cookie monster, a nerd monster, a super-deformed
creature, and others. Four other monsters on the
selection screen may be unlocked after meeting
certain criteria.
Once the game starts, a camera
speeds through a wavy road until it reaches an
assemblage of racers waiting for the green light to
signal the start of the race. The speedometer is on
the lower-right corner of the screen, your position
in the race is on the upper left, the time elapsed
is on the upper right and the LAP count is on the
lower left. A counter on the middle top of the
screen keeps track of how many bonus golden apples
have been picked up on the road - they're littered
everywhere.
The racers speed out of the starting
gate and muscle for rank, avoid obstacles, hit
speed-up tiles on the road, blast each other with
weaponry, and raise hell. The racing action has a
slippery feel to it and the cars slide across the
screen as they motor ahead. Overall, the game play
is smooth if not a little too slippery for our
taste. Controls are responsive however and the car
responds to your tugs and controls with obedience.
Players may enjoy a Single Race where AI-controlled speedsters are
raced against in zooming action. In Championship
Mode, racers compete on 5 courses and the winner is
decided by total ranking once the 5 courses are
completed. For multi-player action, up to four
players may link up wirelessly for a monster racing
competition on a selection of 10 courses which
feature different themes. |
