«©NCSX» In its heyday, Dreamcast software sales trumped PS2 numbers handily. Whereas the majority of PS2 software struggled to sell 100 units each week, DC games regularly hit the 1000 unit mark. Not just a few times but time after time and week after week. NCS had to swat away our collective tears when Sega announced the DC hardware swansong in 2001. Back then, we figured it was the end of perfect Naomi home conversions. We were wrong. Ikaruga, Border Down, Trizeal, Chaos Field (hm), and Rajirugi all made their way to market in the years since. As 2006 rolls around, Naomi conversions are still being churned out and the latest DC release is Under Defeat from G.Rev. We paid a little over $1500 for our Naomi GD-Rom a few months ago to play the helicopter shoot 'em up but Dreamcast gamers get to completely own it for the reasonable price of US$78. The limited edition includes a 11-track music CD (Extended Tracks) which is packaged with the game inside a DVD case.

Dodgeball-bu basically follows the scheme.

  The player configuration in Dodgeball-bu is a unique one where a team of seven players compete against another team of 7 players. Four players on a team roam around their side of the court while their other three players are positioned on the periphery of the opposing team's court. By using this player positioning, a team is able to attack the opposing team from all sides

   When a ball smacks a player that can't or won't catch the ball, energy is taken away until he becomes an angel which flies off to heaven. When only one player on the court remains on a team, the game is over. Teams from 8 nations compete in the dodgeball action which represent 60 players... who all look identical.

«©NCSX» The princess, the king, and a bunny girl have been kidnapped right out of the castle by an airship that looks suspiciously like the attack ship from Thunderforce. In hot pursuit, Rabio Lepus rockets after them like a rodent savior. The princess wears a poofy costume, bunny girl wears bunny ears and a cocktail waitress uniform while the king is a doddering type of monarch. Rabio Lepus is a side scrolling shooter where our rocket-booted rabbit hero shoots at foes in the distance and automatically punches foes that home in close. When in the air, the boots blasting behind him with propulsive force and Rabio may land on the ground to demonstrate that the boots were also made for walking. The difficulty of the game is moderate but the bosses are complete pushovers. They're basically landlocked and present little to no challenge.

 Rotating canisters with carrot labels on them hold power-ups for missiles, carrots for health, and a special power-up which allows Rabio to become invincible for a few seconds where it can rush into anything and destroy it. After defeating each level boss(es), clusters of big carrots drop from the top of the screen which may be collected for 1000 bonus points each.

   After pressing START and entering your name, a character selection screen appears where 16 men and 16 women warriors may be selected for battle. There's a gal who wears purple hot pants and a purple bra-like outfit and a gyuy who looks like a girl with a papal-esque hat on his head. We chose the hot pants gal and were given the opportunity to play MJ against contingents from Wu, Wei, or Shu.

   The action is broken up into stages and before a match begins, the various players will introduce themselves with full speech and challenges as well as righteous conviction that they'll win. After the trash talking, each character is allocated 25000 credits and a gong sounds to start the action. Once the tiles are laid down, huge cut scenes are shown on the screen where an opponent taunts or jives his way through the game. <more>

   Help the girls perform various exercises such as pumping up balloons by pushing on a large pump. The balloons are filled with water and when they burst, the water showers on a gal. Her skimpy clothing then becomes the equivalent result of a wet t-shirt contest so that her bikini may be viewed through the wet clothing. Since the action takes place on a beach, naughty crabs are skittering and clamping their claws on the toes of the gals.
