DC Under Defeat Limited Ed. JPN

DC Under Defeat Limited Edition - Shipping Today
«©NCSX» In its heyday, Dreamcast software sales trumped PS2 numbers handily. Whereas the majority of PS2 software struggled to sell 100 units each week, DC games regularly hit the 1000 unit mark. Not just a few times but time after time and week after week. NCS had to swat away our collective tears when Sega announced the DC hardware swansong in 2001. Back then, we figured it was the end of perfect Naomi home conversions. We were wrong. Ikaruga, Border Down, Trizeal, Chaos Field (hm), and Rajirugi all made their way to market in the years since. As 2006 rolls around, Naomi conversions are still being churned out and the latest DC release is Under Defeat from G.Rev. We paid a little over $1500 for our Naomi GD-Rom a few months ago to play the helicopter shoot 'em up but Dreamcast gamers get to completely own it for the reasonable price of US$78. The limited edition includes a 11-track music CD (Extended Tracks) which is packaged with the game inside a DVD case.

Empire and Union have been at war. After suffering massive casualties on both sides, a stalemate is called but behind the scenes, Empire is massing more weapons of war. With armies and air forces bolstered <more>

PS2 Ace Combat Zero ASN

PS2 Ace Combat Zero: The Belkan War - Shipping Today
The Asian version of Ace Combat Zero arrived today but the Japanese version is expected tomorrow. We will hold preorders to ship tomorrow unless you prefer the Asian version. Thanks for your attention.
«©NCSX» The nation of Belka only has itself to blame for its woes. Years ago while suffering in the throes of economic depression, it allowed the Eastern territory of Ustio to secede and establish itself as an independent nation. Years pass and a wealth of natural resources are discovered in Ustio which provides riches for the fledgling nation. Eyeing their former territory with claws outstretched, a newly resurgent Belka launches an offensive against its neighbors and makes a move on Ustio. The powerful nation of Osea sides with Ustio and provides military support to contain the Belkan war machine. Ace Combat Zero follows the story of mercenaries and fighter pilot under the employ of Ustio who beat back marauding Belkan fighters...
In the first mission of a normal game, the player throttles into the theater of conflict with a wingman named PIXY who shadows your jetfighter with precise control. Belkan bombers and a few fighter escorts are on the way to destroy the Valais airbase which provides the last line of defense for Ustio. If the base is destroyed, Ustio falls. That simply won't do. <more>

PS2 Wizardry XTH JPN

PS2 Wizardry XTH: Mugen no Gakuto - Shipping Today
«©NCSX» Back in the 80s, the big names in RPGs were Ultima, Wizardry, and the ever lovin' Questron. All three found love and fanboy adulation on the Commodore 64, Apple IIe, and PC before fanboys were properly defined. The Atari 8-bit computer got up to Ultima IV and Questron before it fell off the map. In any case, Wizardry has been around for a long time and its lifespan can be measured in decades. NCS recalls poetic Wizardry subtitles such as Proving Grounds of the Mad Overlord, Heart of the Maelstrom, and Bane of the Cosmic Forge. Makes us want to dig out the old Apple IIe and the dusty pile of 5.25" floppy disks that bent like cardboard.

In the olden days, Wizardry games had a certain formula where a traveler would enter an adventurer's inn and then recruit a party before stalking out on multi-level dungeons. Battles were fought with primitive subroutines where die were cast behind the scenes to determine hit or miss on a hulking monster. Dungeon walls consisted of white lines on a black background and creatures looked like the creations of 3rd grade school children. That was how the multi-billion dollar video gaming industry started. Although the calendar currently reads 2006, not much has changed in <more>

NDS Jigsaw Puzzle JPN

NDS Puzzle Series Vol. 1 Jigsaw Puzzle - Shipping Today
«©NCSX» Jigsaw puzzles originated in Europe sometime in the mid 1700s when mapmakers laid maps over mats of wood and carved them into little pieces that interlocked with one another. What was once wood is now virtual, with jigsaw puzzles existing inside the confines of the NDS dual screen. Use the stylus to move jigsaw puzzle pieces and fit them onto a board. In addition to standard format jigsaw puzzles, the player may also assemble parts of national flags, street signs, and the human body to their proper places - for example, in the human body puzzle, the heart, lungs, intestines, and other organs must be arranged in their correct locations. Standard jigsaw puzzle themes include a cat, bumblebee sketch, <more>

NDS Crossword JPN

NDS Puzzle Series Vol. 2 Crossword - Shipping Today
«©NCSX» The crossword puzzle's origins lie in the word square, a collection of letters in equally numbered rows and columns that create words in each row and column. NCS devised a quick 'n durty word square to demonstrate:
b.e.e
e.a.t
e.t.c
The Japanese language is also conducive to cross word puzzles and NDS gamers write out characters on the touch screen to form words and pheases on puzzle boards that measure 7x7, 9x9, 11x11, 13x13, 15x15 or a variable size. For the larger crossword puzzles, the screen may <more>

NDS Sudoku JPN

NDS Puzzle Series Vol. 3 Sudoku - Shipping Today
«©NCSX» Sudoku is a game of numbers where the digits 1 through 9 are placed in a 9x9 play board. Sounds simple enough but the rules dictate that each number can only appear once in any one row or column. Furthermore, the 9x9 board is broken up into nine distinct 3x3 areas that can only hold the numbers 1 through 9 in its squares and no number may be repeated in each 3x3 area. Play boards that appear in the game will already have some numbers filled in which provide the clues and necessary arrangements that follow. In the NDS version of Sudoku, a little munchkin creature serves as the emcee of sorts for the game and it wavers, hops, and acts the clown during the game play.

PSP Shanghai JPN

 PSP Shanghai - Shipping Today
«©NCSX» Back in the day, Shanghai first appeared on the Macintosh in 1986 when it was still exclusively a black & white computer with built-in monitor and built-in 3.25" floppy. We're pretty sure our old Mac SE contained a hard drive that was measured in megs and not gigs and memory that maxed out at 128 (?) megabytes. The Mac desktop sound effects were the best. We recall that the screen was small but exceptionally sharp and perfect for QuarkExpress and NCS newsletters.  We'll throw some up one of these days for historical reference...

Fast forward nearly two decades and Shanghai and inevitable clones, copies, and knockoffs have appeared on every gaming platform from PC to cellphone to portable gaming powerhouses like the PSP. The gist of the game is simple - tiered tiles are arranged on a play board and the player maneuvers a disembodied hand to pick matching tiles and wipe them from the screen. Judicious removal must be exercised since your ultimate goal is to clear the entire board of tiles with nothing remaining.

The tiles are exceptionally sharp and crisp which makes plucking off pairs easy. There's no need to squint to discern which tile is which. In addition to the Normal Mode of the game, there's a Free Mode which does not enforce a time limit and a Time Attack Mode which behooves you to clear the tiles as quickly as humanly possible.
