PSP Shanghai - Shipping Today

NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX» Back in the day, Shanghai first appeared on the Macintosh in 1986 when it was still exclusively a black & white computer with built-in monitor and built-in 3.25" floppy. We're pretty sure our old Mac SE contained a hard drive that was measured in megs and not gigs and memory that maxed out at 128 (?) megabytes. The Mac desktop sound effects were the best. We recall that the screen was small but exceptionally sharp and perfect for QuarkExpress and NCS newsletters.  We'll throw some up one of these days for historical reference...

Fast forward nearly two decades and Shanghai and inevitable clones, copies, and knockoffs have appeared on every gaming platform from PC to cellphone to portable gaming powerhouses like the PSP. The gist of the game is simple - tiered tiles are arranged on a play board and the player maneuvers a disembodied hand to pick matching tiles and wipe them from the screen. Judicious removal must be exercised since your ultimate goal is to clear the entire board of tiles with nothing remaining.

The tiles are exceptionally sharp and crisp which makes plucking off pairs easy. There's no need to squint to discern which tile is which. In addition to the Normal Mode of the game, there's a Free Mode which does not enforce a time limit and a Time Attack Mode which behooves you to clear the tiles as quickly as humanly possible.
