Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
The
second salvo in the Gunparade Orchestra trilogy
features more escapades at a not-so-average high school where
trainees defend the school and the city they're in
from invaders known as Genju. The action consists of
interactive scenarios, going to class, and 3D run 'n gun
action where the player takes direct control of a
deft and agile student soldier who's outfitted in a
nimble suit of armor.
The first Gunparade Orchestra featured a waddling penguin as the
school mascot since it was winter. As GPO Midori no
Shou opens up, the birds are singing, the insects
are wheezing, and spring is literally in the air.
The new mascot is a raggedy white cat who calmly
pads around the school as the world whirls around
it.
Similar to the first game, the defense forces consist of teenage
soldier who head out to battle as soon as they're of
age. The interaction scenarios that take place at
school serve to reinforce relationships with fellow
students. The stronger the bond between students,
the more they'll cooperate like a cohesive force
during missions.
Every copy of the
game includes a bonus 25-minute DVD which contains
an OVA episode of the Gunparade Orchestra Midori no
Shou animation.
NCS Game Notes
* The
game starts up with an old school CLI (command line
interface) where the user boots gunparade2.exe and
enters the DOLL system.
* In the intro to the game, concentric circles
appear before bursting followed by a psychedelic
green swirl and images of the characters in the game
as their portraits appear above school-themed
backgrounds. There's more green imagery to match the
title of the game along with green silhouettes of
the characters and images of Genju creatures. The
intro ends with green circles that circle around the
screen before they morph into the game logo.
* In the Now Loading screen, a white feline creature
sits in the lower right corner and a word bubble
above its snarling maw reads, "Now Loading."
* The game starts a year after the first Gunparade
Orchestra game and the date is March 1, 2000. A
world map appears which recounts the storyline of
the war and the events up to the current date. Sony
rehashed some sequences from the first game's
introduction sequence. The intro goes on to explain
why new recruits need to be replenished continually
and a new class of characters appear in the game. A
large selection of characters may be chosen to serve
as the protagonist.
* After the intro finishes blaring, the camera opens
up on a forest clearing where a tent and encampment
is in the background and birds and insects may be
heard while music plays. Inside the tent a classmate
greets you and leads you outside. Once with nature,
a procession of classmates appear and interact in
sequence while sounds of a skirmish thunder in the
background.
* The proper game starts identically to the first
one except a new teacher with gold shoulder pads and
tassels greets you and leads you to a classroom. She
greets the class with "Ohayo" and gets down to
business. Interaction choices are presented to the
player and if you choose wisely, you'll be rewarded
with a blaring "Your Choice was Excellent" and
attributes are raised.
* Press the L1-TRIGGER to target a character and
listen to what he or she is thinking.
* After a day at school, the protagonist returns
home. The first thing that you should do is go to
the kitchen at the top of the screen and prepare a
meal. You'll hear the chopping of vegetables and the
game will reward you with another "Your Action is
Excellent." Afterwards, it's off to bed before
another day starts.
* When roaming the school grounds, press the R1
trigger to view the available routes and exits to
enter.
* On the option screen when exiting a location, the
choices to visit are:
1) HOME - Directly inside your abode
2) SCHOOL - Enter at the side of the school
3) YARD - Near the computer room
4) NEAR HOME - Bottom of the screen
5) TOWN - Near the restaurant
6) >>Locked<<
7) Cemetery
8) River
9) >>Locked<<
* Players have to keep a set schedule in that school
starts at 9AM and you'll have to get to class on
time or face a reprimand from teacher. Near noon,
students may break for an hour lunch but if you
dally too long, you'll be reprimanded again. After
the second day of school, the sirens blare and it's
time to suit up for the defense of the school.
* After the sirens, an isometric grid is shown while
teacher describes the scenario. Four attackers are
on the way and they must be stopped before they
breach the perimeter of the town. Your team of five
students and a contingent of heavy armor from the
defense corps battle a few large humanoid robots
that may be felled by lobbing a few grenades at
them.
*After successfully fending off attackers, it's back
home for a meal and sleep. The next day, rush to
school and join the class for some exercise at the
gym. The day goes without further incident but
another attack commences the day after and the
sirens blare once again. Five attacks are shown on
the grid - intercept at least two before they rush
and attack. The creatures are scorpions and head
creatures that attack by lapping out their tongues.
