Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Take control of an alpha male ape who leads a gang
of peon simians on action-packed adventures of evolution and
tactical maneuvering. At the outset of the game, the
objective is simpleminded - go forth into the jungle
and collect pears, mushrooms, and the occasionally
rock to bring back to your village of apes. With
each new item, the level of the ape commander
increases and scales up to allow for controlling
ever larger squads of minions.
With greater power comes greater responsibility where animals are
attacked, killed, and reduced to a mutton chop to
feed the village. Lead apes also have to contend
with simple puzzle solving episodes which boost the
intelligence and thus the primitive technology
available to the intrepid gang of workers. When
obstacles such as a big square shaped wedge of stone
requires knocking down, marshal your forces together
and push it over to crack it. When a mastodon needs
killing, crowd around the back of the poor animal
and hack it until it keels over and poofs into a
treasure chest. The ultimate goal of the game is
evolution from ape to primitive man as your little
village becomes a thriving bastion of early
humanity.

Game Notes
» The title screen features a mastodon dead-center
while cavemen and green scenery ring it. The music
is of the jungle drums + trumpet variety.
Upon pressing START, four menu selections appear
1) New Game / Live the primal life
2) Load / Resume a saved game from memory
card
3) Gallery / Must be unlocked before anything
is viewable
4) Options / Set Vibration, sound volume
levels, etc
» The NEW GAME option has three sub-options which
differ in difficulty.
» Upon leaving the village, players control a
galloping ape with the following CONTROL scheme:
L-ANALOG / Movement
R-ANALOG / Camera
O-BUTTON / Action
TRIANGLE / View status, inventory
» Leave the village and enter the Primevel Forest
and four little monkeys split out of your body and
trail you. Pick up the Yellow Star in the distance
to "Max One Up" which allows you to increase your
ape control capacity to five monkeys. To pick up
pears and other objects that are on the ground, walk
over to it and press the "O-Button" and your little
contingent of monkeys will lift it up. Every object
in the world has weight and the pears require the
strength of two monkeys to lift up while the branch
can be hefted by one monkey. A mushroom that is
encountered later on requires the strength of five
monkeys. Carrying capacity is indicated by a number
near the object.
» If your party is carrying objects when a sabretooth tiger attacks, drop everything at once by
pressing the X button and attack it en masse.
» In the Primevel Forest, the first obstacle appears
in the form of a wall which may be pushed down.
Simply walk up to the wall and then push it over by
pressing O. To battle, simply press O against a
creature and your gang will attack. The tiger that
is killed early in the game will leave behind a big
meat chop which takes 4 monkeys to lift up. When you
bring the meat back to the village, you'll level up
and a restaurant will open up in town.
» The aim in the early going is to bring food back
to the village so everyone has enough to eat and
eventual evolution and development will occur.
» Although there are 41 monkeys in your village's
total population, you can only bring 4 monkeys with
you at the outset. As you gain in stature,
additional monkeys may be added to your exploratory
ranks which increases their carrying capacity.
» After picking up things, your little gang of
monkeys cheer in unison. As levels and items are
gained, new areas open in the village. New items
brought back to the village will increase your level
meter.
» A sun icon with a big ol' eye is situated on the
upper right corner and keeps track of day and night
as it rotates in real time.
