NDS Ochaken no Heya - Belated Import

NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX» Three leaf-eared Ochaken tea dogs move into a new house that's bare with nothing on the walls or floors. To make a house a home, furniture must be won to make the interiors suitable for living. At the outset of the game, the dogs stumble in and the stylus may be used to control a little hand that appears on the touch screen. By using the stylus, the dogs may be rubbed and petted to evoke anticipated responses such as a satisfied look and a complacent demeanor.

Mini Games
To win items, mini-games are played. One of the first games takes place in an outdoor setting where various dogs and cats appear from behind trees, rocks, and other coverings. Gamer has to tap on the beast that matches the target dog or cat shown on the upper screen. Since they pop in and out so quickly and the color shades of some of the animals are subtle, it's fairly challenging to discern the beasts. Three animals have to be tapped in order to win a new plaid rug for the house.

Another mini-game is a full game of bowling on a rainbow lane where 9 pins are knocked down over the course of 10 frames. The stylus is swished from the bottom to the top of the NDS touch screen quickly in order to release the ball with the proper amount of English and speed. At the trailing end of the stylus swish, lift it up off the touch screen and the ball will be released. If you keep the stylus on the touch screen, the bowling ball will stay "attached" to your stylus. Score at least 100 points and you win.

Yet another game is Poker which is actual American poker and not some corrupted version of it. Two COM controlled players will participate and once the cards are distributed, the player selects which cards to exchange by tapping them. If your hand is strongest, you'll see a "Win" indicator over your 1P box. Jokers are wild. As long as you win 1 hand, you will win the prize object in contention.

Other card games include Black Jack and Old Maid. Other mini-games include dog versions of Othello and Air Hockey for a total of 18 mini-games to enjoy.

Home Sweet Home
Once a certain number of furnishings have been won by successful completion of challenges, it's time to go home and arrange the furniture. For example, after a successful run of games that we played, 10 items had been collected - a mirror, a bureau, a table, a chair, a bed, two types of windows, a rug, inner brick work, and a waste basket. When placing the items, lighted grids inside the home show the available spots and the orientation of every piece may be rotated per your preference. According to the counter on the top DS screen, there's a total of 256 items to be won and we had only scratched 3% of that surface. Items that appear later include an oscillating fan, a pink toaster, a steam iron, and a rotary phone.

When an object is tapped on a furnished house, the dogs will waddle over to it to investigate and yelp. They don't interact otherwise and sort of stumble around the room investigating, climbing up on things, and staring a things such as a wastebasket for inordinate amounts of time. When a microphone icon appears over the head of a pooch, you may speak into the microphone to give orders in Japanese. If you don't interact with the puppies, they'll eventually lie down and relax themselves. If you tap on the bed, one of the dogs will hop onto it and doze off while Zzz's appear over its head).

The home contains a total of four rooms to furnish along with an outside garden where the principles of feng shui may be observed. Once a television is obtained, it may be used to occupy the dogs and other objects are similarly interactive.
