NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
A Japanese text-intensive sound novel which
tells a tale of two teenagers who are "spirited" off
(well, tricked) to a resort island and must find
their way off the accursed rock. Similar to the
original Kamaitachi no Yoru from the Super Famicom,
characters in the game are shown as featureless
silhouettes filmed against photo-realistic
backdrops. The visual effect adds a layer of
spookiness to a spooky storyline. True to the spirit of sound novels,
readers pore over a lot of text, peer at still
images and backdrops, and occasionally make a choice
which affects the course of the novel. The level of
interaction is sparse which earns the well deserved
categorization of sound novel. As the story plays
out, the situations fork into different
routes and pathways which are based on your
decisions.
As the tale kicks off, Toru, the protagonist of the game receives a
mysterious invitation to Mikazuki Island. Like a
true rube ready to take advantage of any offer,
Toru rushes off with his friend Mari aboard a
rickety steamer. Upon disembarking, something
appears amiss on the desolate island. The steward of
the ship soon lays out the story of Mikazuki where the
manse that Toru's going to be staying at was once a prison. The
mansion that replaced the prison wasn't much better
with the hired help routinely tortured to death when
they attempted to escape their dismal servitude. As
the story goes, the many servants who died cast a
curse upon the house and the family that owned the
estate... |
