NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Want to practice your kanji
interpretation and kana writing skills but don't want to sit through
the tedium of a structured scholastic exercise? Want
to have fun while learning kanji? Publisher Success
answers the collective cries for relief with Kanji no Wataridori.
Step into the persona of a roaming cowboy known as
Kanjigai who goes from town to town battling blue
spandex-wearing ninja. Most cowboys whip out a gun
when faced with adversity but Kanjigai throws down
with quick kana writing skills. As ninja ramble onto
the field of contention, they'll lift up placards
with kanji characters on them. Interpret the kanji,
write down the corresponding kana, and wipe the
goons from the screen. Successful completion of each
wave of ninja leads to new areas where more
challenging kanji combinations put your skills to
the test.

NCS Game Notes
» The
intro to the game plays like an old western movie
complete with film grain as a Japanese cowboy
shimmers into view. He's in a static pose where he
seemingly tips his hat and soon afterwards, the
title screen appears
» Start a new game and you're in a dusty western
town where a female language teacher in a pink shawl
yelps and runs from an unseen danger. A blue
spandex-wearing ninja comes into view with evil
intentions. The girl explains her predicament and
its time to face her pursuers.
» Before the battle, the top screen shows what
appears to be an abandoned warehouse area and
blue-suited ninja skitter onto the screen. Each
villain holds up a placard which displays various
kanji characters. Your job is to interpret them and
write the corresponding kana as quickly as possible
on the areas in the touch screen. If you take longer
than normal, the kana that you need to write will
slowly appear above the kanji characters on the
placard to help you out. Once you write the proper
characters, the ninja will be banished from the
screen. If you're not quick enough on the draw, the
ninja will leap forward and attack. A health bar on
the top of the screen drops with each blow.
» After the first area is completed, new areas open
up which feature different scenarios and situations
to conquer with blazing kanji skills.
» Kanji no Wataridori contains about 10,000 placard
exercises which tests at the junior high school
level.
Some tips:
1) Tapping a single dot on any of the four
quadrants of the virtual writing pad will knock out
the
し
character in case you're practicing kana
shorthand.
2) Drawing a single diagonal slash from the upper
left to lower right will result in the
へ character.
