NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Shiyo aka Shawn Rumble is a young hustler who trades
for profit and self preservation. While parlaying
his commerce one day, his ship known as the Aero
Clipper is attacked by rampaging marauders. Zooming
out to greet them in a powerful mech, Shiyo blasts the three attackers
from the skies but upon defeating them, another
attack gets underway.... until Shishioh Gai of
GaiGaoGar fame steps in to put and end to the attack.
In the latest Sunrise Eiyuutan game, publisher Sunrise steps away
from the tactical + strategic battles of previous
entries and forges ahead with standard RPG battle
system. When an encounter kicks off, enemies are
arrayed in 2D on screen and players simply
select an attack to ignite upon a target. If three
opponents are on screen, players select which
one to attack and then fire the guns or slash the
energy sword. In the first battle, Shiyo can only
attack but additional options are allowed in
subsequent battles.
Since Shiyo is a trader, he'll fly from port city to port city
looking for cargo assignments to take on and goods
to purchase. In order to profit, he may purchase
goods at the origin port for a relatively low price
and then sell them at another port city for triple
his cost.

NCS Game Notes
» In the intro to the game, clouds provide a
floor below and blue skies loom above as a cruiser
known as the Aero Clipper skims above the clouds.
The scene shifts to a video box which spools off
animated sequences which show Sunrise robots from
the animation series featured in the game. Below the
video box are the main characters of the Sunrise
Eiyuutan 3 game. The scene shifts again to polygon
renders of the mechs as they perform duties followed
by more animations of the various Sunrise series.
» After pressing START, only two options appear: NEW
GAME and LOAD GAME. There's no options menu to
toggle sound BGM, dual shock vibration, or adjust
the screen.
» As the game begins, a voice over details the back
story as clouds loom below and blue skies glower
overhead. There's a retrospective of events that
have led to the current conflict. Eventually, the
main character Shiyo (aka Shawn Rumble) is
introduced along with cohorts Shinii and Rodoru.
After a while, a green-haired robot maiden named
Meira joins the crew on the ship.
» Shortly after introductions are made, three
marauders zoom across the clouds and head towards
the Aero Clipper. They're hell bent on destruction
and communicate with each other by way of flashes
that appear on the bottom of the screen. With sirens
blaring inside, Shiyo launches himself in a mecha to
fend off the attack.
» Battles are fought in simple first person view
perspective which plays a lot like the old Phantasy
Star games from the MegaDrive days. The enemies
appear on screen, attacks are selected, and then
players watch the attacks play out. Then the enemies
attack. Then you attack and so on and so forth until
one side is wiped out. Each attack is accompanied by
a reasonably good quality video animation that plays
inside a mini window that pops up over the enemy.
Sunrise boasts over 1000 different animations that
are featured in the game.
» At the outset of the game, Shiyo may battle with a
weak attack which consists of a punch, a medium
attack where guns are fired, and a strong attack
which crushes the enemy with a powerful sword slash.
As the game progresses, new attacks are added to his
arsenal. Once an enemy is defeated, it blinks out of
existence.
» Enemies can attack your mech directly or focus
their energies on the Aero Clipper ship which has
4000 HP. The first enemies attack with guns and
energy swords but as new foes are encountered, their
arsenals grow ever more exotic. If the Aero Clipper
is destroyed in battle, the game ends.
» After defeating the three attackers, the
Battlestations clarion is still on alert as a
missiles zooms in and weaves past Shiyo. It lands
squarely on the Aero Clipper - at this point, a
special guest appears to lend a helping hand.
Shishioh Gai of GaoGaiGar rides in to put an end of
the assault and greets Shiyo and crew afterwards.
Over 180 characters from the Sunrise animations
featured in the game appear as supporting cast
members and compatriots in battle.
» The character dialogue in the game is entirely
spoken and shown in accompanying text boxes.
» Only 1 save data file may be saved to a memory
card. Multiple memory cards are required if you wish
to save different points during the game.
» After collecting supplies at a port depot, its
time to launch again and the ship lifts off followed
by animation stills taken from Sunrise series from
the 80s. Although the animation looks good, the age
of the various series do show through with boxy
designs and the video shows some rough hewn edges.
Overall however, the quality should prove pleasing
to big robot nostalgia seekers.
» While at port, cinema caps from all 10 Sunrise
animation series may be viewed but it'll cost you
500R per photo. There's a fairly large library of
images to pore through if you have the coin to
spend.
» Shiyo accepts cargo at various ports for delivery
to other ports to earn money. At the outset, he may
commit to four cargo carrying assignments at a time
but he may also cancel them while at port if a
better opportunity arises. Shiyo may also purchase
items at one port for a low price and then sell them
at another port to capture the price differential to
earn a profit. His cargo hold can only carry a
certain number of products however which limits his
ability to make a massive killing.
» Different ports and cities serve as the home bases
for the various characters and heroes from the
popular Sunrise animation series of the 80s. As
Shiyo reaches different cities, he'll meet new
compatriots and allies.
» If the Aero Clipper is damaged in battle, it may
be repaired while in a port city for a nominal cost.
» Destinations to visit are chosen on a world map
where port cities and their attributes are shown.
When traveling between cities, attacks may occur
which sends Shiyo into fighting action against
attackers.
» During an attack, blows are selected from choices
under the threshold of the first option. Players may
also throw up a defensive shield (second option) and
call for backup support to enact a powerful attack
(fourth option). If you're suicidal, you can also
choose to skip your turn (fifth option). If the
battle is turning against you, can can elect to have
the Aero Clipper fire its boosters and escape from
battle (third option). Later in the game, it's
possible to link attacks with fellow robots to blast
massive attacks on hapless enemies.
* To skip the animation the preludes every battle,
press the X button.
