   It's a slow day for news so we took some photos of our pet shrimp. They're called cherry red shrimp in the fish trade and originate from Taiwan. As we understand it, the red color doesn't occur in nature and Taiwanese breeders selectively manipulated the breeding of the shrimp so that they're bright red when they mature. The shrimp that we have are still juveniles so their crimson coloring hasn't set in yet but little flecks of red may be seen in their shells. We have one shrimp that's pregnant with shiny yellow eggs that will probably hatch in a few weeks. We'll take photos of the babies when they're born and throw them up online.
