Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Nintendo's Bit Generations lineup seeks to
approximate the look and feel of old school 8-bit
gaming. For the most part, the games succeed in
capturing the magic of the early 80s with diversions
that feature exceedingly simple objectives and
controls. As one conquers early levels, later stages
scale higher in difficulty to challenge elite
players and foil average gamers.
In Coloris, the mission is color matching. That's it. Match
a line of at least three blocks of the same color
either horizontally or vertically and watch them
blink out of existence. At the outset, the
play board consists of a 5 x 5 area that's comprised
of four types of colored squares. Later levels
escalate progressively larger with boards measuring
10 x 9 and filled with more than four types of
colored squares.
NCS Game Notes
» At the
outset of the game, only Clear Mode is available.
» A 5 x 5 square playfield kicks off the action. Use
a lighted cursor to highlight a block and then spin
it to another color to create color matches of at
least 3 colors vertically or horizontally. Flip
blocks and change their colors to match. Once a
match is made, the squares in the mix shine and
disappear from the screen as more blocks fall from
above to take up the vacuum. Some blocks on the
playfield can't be changed and they'll just shake a
little. The four colors in the first level are: red,
orange, light-orange, and yellow. When changing
colors, the blocks follow a progression. For
example, tapping "A" on a red block will change it
to orange. Tap it again and it goes to light-orange.
Tap it once more to bring it down to yellow. A block
that's at orange may go either way - to red and then
back to orange or go initially to light-orange and
then yellow before going back to light-orange.
» After finishing the first level, the game prompts
you to check Score Mode which is unlocked on the
title screen. The next stage features the following
colors - yellow, lime-green, turquoise, and blue.
The second playfield spans 5 x 6 and offers more
square area to create color matches and
combinations.
» A color bar on the top of the screen keeps track
of your color matches - once it is filled up with
various color match indicators, the level is cleared
and you move on to the next stage.
» The third stage features the following colors -
blue, purple, violet, and red. The fourth stages
adds a special blocks decorated with a small
animated checker board inside which allows for
diagonal color matching which clears wide swaths of
blocks if combos are made. In later stages, more
color gradations are added to complicate matters.
» Another special block that appears in later levels
is one with a star-shape in the center. If you make
a match with this block, it'll clear out every block
of the same color on the playfield.
» Occasionally, grey-colored blocks appear on the
playfield. To destroy them, create a color match
next to them and lighten their color. Create another
color match next to the gray blocks and they'll
blink away and be filled up with regular blocks that
fall from above.
» Controls consists entirely of d-pad and a-button.
Nothing else.
» After clearing the fifth stage, Advanced Series
stages are unlocked and playable.
