Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Originally released in Japanese arcades on Namco's
System 246 hardware, Bandai robs arcade operators of
any future profit by releasing an improved PS2
version of the game with more fighters and new
modes. Kinnikuman follows the story of a bumbling
meathead who aspires to become a revered superhero.
Somewhere between first inkling of his life goal and
the realization of stardom, Kinnikuman becomes a
wrestler and battles all manner of miscreants
including Sphinxman, Ramenman, Brocken Jr.,
Buffaloman, and other ».man.
New to the PS2 game is a Story Mode which follows the events in the
"Seven Devil Choujins" and "Golden Mask" storylines.
At the outset, the Choujins led by Buffaloman escape
their prison and kidnap Alexandria Meat who is later
dismembered. A separate body part goes to each of
the seven Choujin which compels Kinnikuman to battle
each of them to retrieve Meat-kun's parts and put
him back together again. The PS2 game also features
a Tournament Mode and a VS mode where one of 17
possible fighters may be selected and thrown into
the wrestling ring. An additional 15 wrestlers may
be unlocked for a total of 32 fighters.

NCS Game Notes & Spoilers
» In the intro to the game an outline of muscle
man is shown against a galactic background. A hokey
song plays while various wrestlers fly through space
and battle a dark armored warrior and then beat each
other. Scenes of still-wrestlers are shown along
with action sequences where the wrestlers battle,
play soccer, and tangle with each other in awkward
looking moves. The lyrics includes a part where the
singers spell out M-U-S-C-L-E in energetic broken
English.
» Press START and the following options appear:
● STORY MODE: Relive the "Seven Devil Choujins"
story arc and then the "Golden Mask" chapter
complete with cinemas and one-on-one bouts.
● TOURNAMENT MODE: Select 5 wrestlers and battle
against human or CPU player one-on-one in single
round bouts.
● VS MODE: Select a wrestler from 17 possible
fighters and duke it out against a second player or
the CPU. In addition to the available fighters, 15
more are hidden and must be unlocked
● OPTIONS . Set Vibration, Load and Save Data
to memory card, set match length, etc.
» In the TOURNAMENT MODE, players select five
wrestlers and fight in one-on-one matches against
the other team. Battle through the ranks of the
opponent's five wrestlers to win. If one of your
wrestlers is defeated, he's X'd out and you use the
next fighter in sequence from the bottom up.
» Before each match, portraits of the fighters are
shown and when the fighters are inside the ring, the
wrestlers do a little trash talking. Once the action
starts, one realizes that this isn't a conventional
wrestling game in the Fire Pro vein. The moves are
very fast and executed in speedy motion. The usual
assortments of holds and grappling moves may be
performed where helicopters, backbreakers, and other
wrestling attacks are performed in addition to
smacks and wallops. The controls are as follows
TRIANGLE / Grapple, grab, perform special attack
move
SQUARE / Attack, press in sequence for multiple hits
CIRCLE / Secondary attack which uses energy from the
power gauge
X-BUTTON / Guard against attack
» When you lose a match, the announcer mockingly
says, Lu-uu-ser.
» The d-pad moved in different directions + the
SQUARE attack button makes the wrestler perform
various attacks and moves.
» Only the d-pad is used for movement. The L-analog
doesn't do anything.
» When two fighters are really into it and fighting
as if their lives depended on it, there's inordinate
amounts of groaning, yelling, and dreadful noises
emanating from the men.
» Guarding against a rampaging wrestler will block
his blows but won't stop him from performing a grab
move and a neck or back breaker.
» In the first Story Mode adventure, Kinnikuman
bounces into a floating prison in outer space and
releases 7 spectral warriors. Buffaloman destroys
Alexandria Meat and hands out his parts to his
troops. Buffaloman keeps Meat's noggin.
» The first match starts near the Eiffel Tower where
Kinnikuman faces off against SteCase King, a Walkman
wrestler with a big tape deck for a body. Before the
match, Kinnikuman does the victory sign with both
hands while SteCase washes his tape deck heads with
a Q-tip. After defeating SteCase, the consumer
appliance wrestler can be seen on the mat,
breathing. The next challenger is BH or Black Hole
who has a hole in his head and a big BH on his chest
uniform. He holds one of Meat's hands and the battle
takes place in a sports stadium where a restless
crowd watches outside the steel cage. After a bunch
of banter, Kinnikuman enters and challenges BH who
is unimpressed. After he's defeated, the player
chooses a fighter to serve as his hero from 5
possible choices and will face off against another
wrestler depending on who is chosen. Each fighter
faces a different foe until all seven Choujin are
defeated.
» When a match is over, the game replays the last
3-4 seconds of the match in quick sequence to show
what was good, bad, and ugly.
» The matches in story mode are only 1 bout per
opposing wrestler and some matches last only 15
seconds. The longest one we had was 50 seconds. It's
a fast-kill kind of game. Each match's time is
counted on the upper left corner of the screen and
continues counting through all of the matches for a
cumulative count.
» The Egyptian wrestler Sphinxman has a move where
he wraps his opponent like a mummy and then plunges
a long straw into his bodies and sucks out HP. If
you're caught, you'll lose about 1/3 of your
remaining HP due to his thirst.
» In the Now Loading screen, a random wrestler
performs repetitive movements next to the Now
