Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Originally built on Sammy's modular Atomiswave
hardware and released in September of 2005, Guilty
Gear XX Slash garnered favorable press and much love
from the fan base. Playstation 2 owners got the game
in April of this year in a quick hop-step from
arcade to home. Four months later, Arc System ports
the game to the PSP, stretches the aspect ratio to
16:9,
and adds a side scrolling action game to the mix of
modes. Two players may also hook up via ad hoc mode
and bout it out wirelessly.
Similar to the PS2 version of GGXX Slash, the action runs fast with
smooth game play as fighters charge into battle and
perform roman cancels, double jumps, and make the
most of their burst and tension gauges. Two new
fighters join the GGX2 fold: A.B.A and Order-Sol. To
be clear, A.B.A is only a new character within the
canonical framework of the Guilty Gear X series
since she originally debuted in the Guilty Gear
Isuka game from 2004. A.B.A is an artificial life
form who isn't very strong but can use on-the-fly
blood transfusions to change modes from meek
automaton to rampaging death dealer. A.B.A is
limited to using three blood packs per match and
loses health when she's in Moroha or double-edge
mode. A.B.A carries a massive key named Paracelsus
which she swings for attacks. A.B.A. can be seen
leaning against it at the outset of every match for
support. Holy Order-Sol is a new character to the
GGX fold who is a throwback version of Sol Badguy
when he was a member of the Sacred Order of Holy
Knights.

Game Notes
» Upon starting up the game, two screens appear:
Guilty Gear Judgment and Guilty Gear XX Slash. GG
Judgment is where you want to go if you're hankering
for some of that side scrolling action. A new game
introduction cinema was also created solely for
Judgment to add value.
» Guilty Gear Judgment features the following game
modes: Main Game, Survival, and Network. In the Main
Game, players choose a fighter out of 5 possible
choices (Sol-Badguy, Ky-Kiske, May, Millia Rage, and
I-NO) but 15 other GGX characters may be unlocked as
used as conditions are met in the game. The first
area is ruined village of some sort with smoking
buildings and watchtowers. Reptilian creatures are
on the attack and the player's job is to walk around
and destroy the gangs of post-apocalyptic creatures
which attack en masse. Note that the "X" button is
set to a JUMP command in Judgment but the
double-jump move has been disabled. The other face
buttons are still used to attack.
» Judgment allows fighters to pull off their special
moves and the use of the Burst and Tension gauges
are in full effect. Bonus pick-ups are available in
Judgment by breaking open canisters. There's
standard health power-ups which consist of plates of
food and treasures for bonus points. For a Tension
Gauge boost, pick up the power-up that looks like a
green cocktail in a martini glass.
» Guilty Gear Judgment Survival Mode gives the
player about a minute per level to destroy as many
creatures as possible who jump into the stationary
stage from both sides. After defeating all comers, a
portal opens up which leads to the next level.
» The D-pad or the analog nub may be used for
control. Note that the analog nub is normally set to
inactive but you can toggle it on by going into the
button configuration and toggling it on. While the
standard PSP rift-pad is less than ideal for a game
like
GGXX, the use of one of the Capcom
d-pad attachments saves it.
» The blood runs ruddy and thick.

A.B.ANew Techniques
The various fighters have been bolstered with new
moves and attacks. For example, Sol Badguy loses the
dust loop but has a new aerial attack called
"Sidewinder" which sends an opponent flying and
bouncing off walls. Sol can then rush up and press
the attack on the bounce. Chipp Zanuff has the
ability teleport directly behind an opponent for a
surprise attack, Jam can perform a versatile
backflip attack, and Axl has a new move known as "Kokuugeki"
where he hovers above the fray and throws his chains
on a foe.
Game Modes
Game modes consist of Arcade, VS. 2P, VS. CPU,
Training, Survival, Mission, and M.O.M. (Medal of
Millionaire). The other menu selections are:
Gallery, Sound, Option, Quit. In the Training Mode,
players may set the disposition of the opposing
fighter to turn him into a standing patsy or a
rampaging attacker who presses the attack. The
Gallery Mode contains beautiful artwork of the
Guilty Gear X characters as illustrated by various
artists.
In addition to EX forms of the 23 fighters,
there's also Guilty Gear XX #Reload expressions of
the characters for battle-hardened gamers
unaccustomed to Arc's tweaking.
Controls
SQUARE / Punch
X-BUTTON / Kick
TRIANGLE / Slash
O-BUTTON / Hard Slash
L-TRIGGER / Memory (Only applicable in Training Mode)
R-TRIGGER / Burst Gauge Launching Move
SELECT / Reset
Pushing up makes a fighter jump. Push up again for a
double jump.
Pushing down forces the fighter into a crouch.
Burst Gauge
Located directly below the health bar and
charges up as attacks are thrown out and hits are
absorbed from opponents. To use the power reserved
in the Burst Gauge, tap the R-Trigger + an attack
button. A successful Burst hit results in a full
charge on your fighter's Tension Gauge (see below).
When the Burst power is used when an opponent
attacks, a Combo Breaker move is activated which
glances away the attacker.
Tension Gauge
Located at the bottom of the screen and
gradually charges up as your attacks connect on a
hapless opponent. At full charge, players may
perform a Super Attack to destroy an attacker. To go
into Destroyer Mode, make sure your Tension Gauge is
full and press X, O, SQUARE, and TRIANGLE together
Roman Cancel
Interrupt an attack or move in mid-stream by
slapping three attack buttons. A Roman Cancel
stops the normal recovery time required for a move
for an immediate follow-up attack. Useful when a
move is botched and an opponent is about to take
advantage of your sloppiness. Also useful for
stuttering a combo attack. A Roman Cancel will knock
off 50% of your Tension Gauge. Please also note that
a Roman Cancel can only be performed if your initial
attack connects with an opponent.
