NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Yusuke Urameshi is a rough and tumble tough who's
name is whispered amongst the student body of
Sarayashiki Junior High School. Bad ass to the bone,
Yusuke has no reservations about punching out rivals
such as the brutish Kazuma Kuwabara.
One day, Yusuke interacts with a little boy who is playing soccer
near a busy street and warns him to stay away from
the road. A few seconds later, Yusuke's words are
unheeded as the little boy dashes out into the
middle of the road to retrieve his soccer ball. With
blazing reflexes, Yusuke leaps into action and
pushes the boy out of the path of a car and takes
the full brunt of the impact himself. Moments later,
Yusuke's spirit is listing above his body and an
adventure that spans the Spirit World soon begins...

Game Notes
»
The detective of the Spirit World Yusuke Urameshi
finally reaches the NDS with an adventure-action
game. The story of the NDS game follows Yusuke's adventure from
his first out of body experience after he saved a
little kid from oncoming traffic to the conclusion
of the Dark Tournament.
»
The game starts off with an image of Botan on the
top screen where she greets Yusuke Urameshi and a
replay of Yusuke's heroic saving of a child in front
of a red zooming car is shown. In the next scene,
Koenma is shown with trademark pacifier in his
mouth. Koenma is the judge in the Spirit World and
sends souls to heaven or hell. He decides that
Yusuke should be a Spirit Detective... After the
introductions, Yusuke appears followed by Kazuma
Kuwabara and Yusuke plays janken against a spirit
guide. Tap on Rocks, Scissors, and Paper icons in a
three round bout which decides Yusuke's HP and MP
attributes.
»
Once the shenanigans are over, the action begins.
The d-pad is used to control Yusuke and the button
commands are as follows:
A-BUTTON / Punch
B-BUTTON / Push down and move to run
Y-BUTTON / Kick
X-BUTTON / Rei Gun
To power up a punch of kick, hold down on the "B-Button" and then
press either "A" or "B" to perform a higher level
attack.
»
By pressing the A button quickly at the first stream
of enemies that flitter around, Yusuke will do a
combo push attack and smash them in rapid staccato. Combos are
counted and tracked
as enemies are pounded. More formidable enemies
appear later including a fireball-firing shaman and
rock creatures that lumber around. By timing an
attack correctly, Yusuke may punch a shaman's fireballs to
deflect them back at him. The fastest way to take care of the
rock creatures is by rapid kick attacks. The shaman
is tougher because of his fireballs but once you
evade one and get close, rapid-kicks dispatch him
quickly.
»
Yusuke's adventure starts off in the Spirit World
where he must locate his "ordeal" from the cavern that he's in. His
ordeal is in the form of a golden egg which he
cultivates to become a Spirit animal. In the
anime, he rushes off with Botan to make sure his
body isn't cremated and visits Keiko in a dream to
tell her to stop his cremation so he can be brought
back and rejoin the physical. Later in the cave, he
finds the egg. To crack it open, draw circles with the stylus around the shell and
a blue bird-like creature pops out with long ears
and a mass of black mop of hair on top. Once he finds
the egg, his trial is over and he goes back to the
room with Botan and Kazuma and the spirit guide.
»
The game's various mini-games are fairly challenging.
In one sequence, Yusuke is tied up in
bandages and a stylus
scratching mini-game starts where stylus must be
scratched furiously on a little cursor box on the touch screen. The goal is to break Yusuke's bindings.
If you're not able to scratch furiously enough to
ramp the gauge on the top of the screen for 8 tries,
the game ends.
» In another mini-game, the stylus is drawn
in a tight circle to activate Yusuke's Rei Gun to
shoot a beam of power at a demon.
