Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
One day, Kirby is sitting in a field about to gobble
up a
slice of strawberry shortcake
when it disappears. Looking around in bewilderment,
Kirby soon realizes there's been a robbery and the pink
puff of a beast rushes off to retrieve his good
eats.
Kirby appears in another side scrolling
platform action game which doesn't use the stylus in
the platform hopping action although the mini-games
do require it. The pink hero uses trademark
moves such as inhaling air to capture enemies and
then spitting them out like projectiles. Kirby may
also jump up to gain lift and
loft higher by pressing the jump button again where
he turns into a pink balloon capable of flight...

Game Notes
»
The
latest Kirby game takes players back to the roots of
the popular series where the lead hero engages in
standard platform action. Move Kirby from left to
right and attack enemies, solve puzzles, and gather
up bonus items. The enemies look somewhat familiar and the music
is a Tetris-like staccato that's frenetic and sounds
like the composer was into ditties.
»
There's a point
in the first level where Kirby drops into a body of water and he's
immediately outfitted with blue diving goggles. As
he swims, his flippers row back and forth for just
the right about of propulsive force. When under
water, pressing the B button makes Kirby shoot out a
little spout of water.
»
Over the
course of the game, Kirby will be able to pick up
bonus items and power-ups which are stored in his
belly and shown on the touch screen of the NDS. Only five items may be held at any one time in inventory
and any attempts to gather up more will be rejected.
To use an item, tap on it for instant activation.
Power-ups may be dragged with the stylus and mixed
together to give Kirby multiple abilities and
skills.
»
Controls
A - Jump; Press again for Balloon Mode
B - Inhale; If an enemy is captured, press again to
fire it like a missile
To increase the power of Kirby inhalation power,
press in the direction that he's facing in addition
to pressing B and his mouth will open up like a
cavern and double the amount of suction.
To flatten Kirby, press down on the d-pad. There's a
point in the early part of level 1 where a bomb
precedes an impassable wall. To get past this point,
flatten Kirby and then press the A button to shoot
Kirby into the bomb to detonate it and the wall.
Pushing up on the d-pad makes Kirby inhale air in
inflate himself so that he floats.
»
Level 1 is
called Prism Plains which is simple and
straightforward. The level was designed to give
players a feel for the play mechanics and Kirby's
capabilities without taxing one's brain or reflexes
too much.
»
At the end of the first level, there's a bonus stage
where Kirby is plugged inside a cannon that rotates. Shoot
him out at a platform that contains a goody to win a
prize.
»
When Kirby swallows an enemy, he can no
longer float since he's bogged down with bulk inside. Kirby can
take on the attributes of enemies if he inhales one
and then presses down on the D-pad. He'll then be empowered with the creature's
special
powers and abilities.
Fairly early in the game, Kirby can
obtain a sword
which appears on the touch screen. To activate it,
tap on the sword icon and Kirby is armed. Bonuses
and other power ups are also sent to the touch
screen for utilization at opportune times. When holding
the sword, Kirby also wears a green cap and can
slash stalks of grass in half. Kirby can later
inhale an animal and then use its fur and claws.
Still later in Prism Plains, Kirby can adopt the
powers of a penguin-like creature and blow cold air
which changes enemies into crystalline cubes of ice.
They can then be pushed out of the screen with a
shove. When he's powered thusly, Kirby wears a crown
of icy thorns.
»
The
first boss that Kirby meets is a mole-looking rodent
who shoots out icy blue cubes that may be sucked up
and used against it. The mole also shakes its fanny
at the viewer.

Three mini games selectable on the third option on
the menu as follows - there are three levels for
each:
1)The first mini-game selectable on the main menu
pits Kirby against a blue pirate rat who sits on the
top NDS screen while Kirby is on the touch screen.
Kirby waits on the bottom screen with a fork adhered
to its right paw while the rat gloms above with
knife and fork in hand. An ornate silver platter appears covered with a
serving top. Wait for it to be lifted and then tap
on the strawberry-topped pastries that appear. Up to
four may be tapped but there are some that have
bombs instead of strawberries on top. If you tap the
explosive-laden cake, you'll blow Kirby up and get
knocked out for 1 round but he's back to his usual
puffy pink perfection after that.
Whomever fills up the pastry gauge with 8 bars first
wins. The small pastries are worth 1 bar but the
large ones are worth 2 bars. Theoretically then, if
4 big pastries appear and you're quick enough to tap
all of them under 1 second, you win.
2) Kirby faces off against a gang of rodents but
instead of platform action, it's more like a vicious
game of pool with balls that push back. Kirby's job
is to use his thrust and moxie to push mice
creatures that are rambling over a circular disc
over the edge and presumably into space since the
backdrop is starry. To energize Kirby for a power-up
roll, tap on him and then swish the stylus in the
direction of attack. Whomever has the most kills
within 60 seconds wins.
3) Three treasure chests appear on the top NDS
screen and an opponent riding inside a flying saucer
floats to the right of them. Kirby appears on the
touch screen and his job is to toss pink spheres at
items that appear over the treasure chests to win
them. There's also the occasional blow-up doll that
floats over a chest which is popped by tossing
spheres at it until it blows. This sequence is sort
of like the carnival game where players shoot
water into the mouths of clown faces so that the
balloons above them blow up. Whoever gets the most
points in 30 seconds wins. Bombs appear randomly
which should not be shot lest Kirby trigger an
explosion.
A fourth mini game is not accessible at the outset.
