NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Travel
to the Windbloom Kingdom and join the cast of My
Otome in fast-paced 3D battles that take place in
mid-air ala Psychic Force. However, My Otome HIME is not a true fighting game in the
classic sense of the genre. When NCS thinks of
fighting, we imagine a free-flowing game where
punches, kicks, and guards flow in direct control
from
the player. Not so in My Otome where the
movements of the fighters are stuttered and not free
flowing although the attacks spool out in fluid
succession.
For example, when poised on a battle field, the girls only have a set number of positions where they may
move on screen. In a close combat situation where
two opponents are face to face, there are
exactly five cardinal positions to move the fighter
- high, level, low, and towards the left or right to
evade and strategize. Level refers to being face to
face with the opponent. There is no true freedom of
movement but the stutter-step action seems to work
if you're the kind of fighting game fan who enjoys
fast, chaotic, and constrained action. Although the
fighters have limited range of movement, they can
ignite attacks and special blows in quick motion and
pound out HP draining
combos.

NCS Game Notes
»
In the intro to the game, clouds flow across the
sky in front of a moon as images of the gals of My
Otome appear in snippets of action, facial
expression, and flowing motion while a song called
"Valkyrja" plays. It's sung by a quick-speaking
Japanese gal. Scenes from the animation are shown
with short camera pans and swivels. As the song
continues to play with a driving beat, our eyes
searched the screen for more action as the girls
turned into their HIME forms and battled mechs and
gesticulated wildly across the sky. One girl pulls
out a bazooka of some sort and aims it in the
distance. After a frenetic show, the My Otome HIME
logo appears.

»
There are 5 battle stages in the game including
one stage which takes place above the planet where
the gals float and spin like Psychic Force heroes.
After selecting the stage, choose the BGM. Before
the battle begins, the characters interact a bit
accompanied by spoken dialogue intonated by the
voice actresses from the animation. A short movie
then plays showing the girls changing from normal
girls into Mai-HIME incarnations. Since the
cinemas can get tiresome after the 50th time,
pressing START will skip them.
»
Shiho Huit has a vicious hair-attack where her red
locks pummel an opponent in rapid staccato.
»
Special attacks are shown in 2-3 second cinema
sequences.
»
Techniques in play: Guard Break, Counter Hits,
Reflect, Grace Guard
»
A combo meter keeps track of hits impacted
»
Either the D-pad or L-analog stick may be used for
control.
»
After each battle, players may opt to save their
progress to memory card 1 or 2.
»
NCS would have liked a practice mode with a dummy
CPU to get a feel for the game but alas, there is
none. The battles are fast and the CPU plays
viciously and quick.
»
Graphics are crisp and characters are large when
the camera pans close-up.
»
After a successful battle, the Arika Yumemiya gal
poses in mid-air with her left hand signaling the
V-sign over her left eye while the camera swivels
around her for as long as you wish to view the
spectacle. She also leans back and bends her knees
slightly to accentuate the pose like a rascal.
Press the O button to skip to the next challenger.
»
If an opponent's blow is strong enough to perform
a Guard Break on your character, her shield will
shatter both audibly and visibly.
