NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
After a
meteorite devastates Shibuya and levels it entirely,
a young woman named Hiyori Kusakabe begins her
story. Along with the meteorite that fell, alien
creatures known as Worms perpetrate and propagate. In the first
episode of the television series, protagonist Tendou
Souji is walking on wooden shoes and carrying a bowl
of tofu in water when he makes a grand pronouncement
about the meaning of his name and grandma's wisdom.
Since birth, Tendo was destined to become a Rider
and he works towards that end by destroying alien
Worms and protecting a young woman named Hiyori
Kusakabe from danger.
Tendou's alter-ego is Kamen Rider Kabuto and he teams up with Kamen
Rider Gatack to defend the planet from the assault
of the alien Worms. The PS2 game follows the story
and major battles of the television series closely.
This is in evidence upon starting the game which
recounts the events of the first episode of KRK
where a squad of Zectroopers battle a group of
Worms in an underground garage. The first level of
the game puts the player in control of one
member of the Zectroopers while the others are
controlled by the COM. For a while, they'll just
stand around but after a few seconds, they get down
to business.

NCS Game Notes
»
In the first episode of the Kamen Rider Kabuto
television series, the Zectroopers roll on
Hummers. Their guns also fire with starburst
patterns which are recreated in the game.
» The intro to the game is a CG rendered rendition
of the intro from the television series with the
meteorrite crashing through Shibuya, Kabuto in
action and riding his motorcycle. The scene from
the first episode of the show is also shown where
the Worms dominate the Zectroops before Kabuto
rides in and defeats them with roundhouse kicks
and nifty style.
» In the Now Loading screen, a red Kabuto vehicle
circles the screen.
» At the outset, only Kabuto is selectable as your
character. There are two other green wireframe-like
figures in the character select screen but they
are not selectable yet. After selecting Kabuto ,
he raises his left arm to the air.
» The beginning of the game recounts the meteorite
falling, followed by the arrival of green shelled
worms who lumber along and face off against the
Zecter troops. The player takes control of one
member of the Zectroops and fires away at the
enemies while the COM-controlled squad of comrades
fire upon the worms under their own volition. Just
when they're down to 1 worm, it molts and knocks
down a couple of Zectroops before HQ radios in to
tell the troops to retreat. More worms appear in
stage 2 but Tendo arrives and says "Henshin,"
flicks his belt, and transforms into Kabuto who is
fully armored and ready for action.
» In the second stage, players control only Kabuto
and battle the lead Worm and two green shelled
underlings. There's a clock-up move where pressing
the TRIANGLE button speeds Kabuto up like a
gangster of time so that he moves so fast that
everything else moves in slow motion. This is a
simple way to defeat the first boss and watch its
body be used as a slo-mo punching bag. The
Clock-up animation sequence is impressive to
watch.
» The game follows the events of the television
series closely and depicts all of the major events
and conflicts which makes it a must-have game for
fans of the Kabuto serial. The stages flow quickly
in sequence and there is little rest or respite as
a new battle arrives hot on the heels of each
completed stage. Within 10 minutes of starting the
game, we were already on stage 4.
» Either the D-pad or L-analog may be used for
control. Button assignments:
TRIANGLE.........Clock up
CIRCLE.............Attack
CROSS..............Shoot; Press it twice to flip
the gun and use it like a hammer.
SQUARE............Jump
R1-TRIGGER......Guard/Block
R2-TRIGGER......Dash move (used in conjunction
with d-pad)
» When Kabuto loses, he's seen laying sprawled on
the ground as the camera overhead slowly pans away
on the dormant form lying on the ground.
