NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
A
millennia ago, a comet devastated the world. From
the ruins of a shattered planet, the survivors
rebuilt and discovered a new source of energy in
the comet known as Lens. With the new power,
humanity was able to create a great sky city known
as Dycroft. The inhabitants of the sky city became
known as Aethereans who asserted rule over the
planetsiders who were known as E'rthers. After
many years of subjugation with a weapon called the
Belcrant, scientists in Dycroft defected to the
side of the E'rthers and developed a new weapon
for them - the Swordian which were living swords
capable of independent thought. Armed with the
Swordians, the E'rthers were able to overthrow
their overlords. After the great war, the
Swordians were retired as their great power was no
longer needed.
As the story begins, a lad named Stahn Aileron is
hitching an unauthorized ride on a stone
dragon-shaped ship called the Draconis. He's
discovered on board and is mistakenly suspected as
being after a special weapon on board. The crew
corners him but before they can do much more, the
Draconis is attacked by airborne creatures who
invade the ship and attack the agents on board.
Given a new lease on life and an escape path, Stahn explores the ship and comes in contact with
a powerful sword known as Dymlos. It is the
special weapon that the crew was protecting and
what the invaders are after. By ripping the sword
from its mounting case, Stahn embarks on an
adventure that spans the world.

NCS Game Notes
» Intro: The camera opens up on a forest floor and
looks up to the sparkling sky followed by clouds
and greenery. The title screen appears with the
following selections:
NEW GAME........Take up the sword as Stahn
CONTINUE.........Resume a game from memory
card save data
CUSTOM............Set message speed, game
dificulty, position screen, set stereo/mono, dual
shock, etc
SOUND MODE....Listen to the music of Tales
of Destiny. Only the opening theme is available at
the outset.
» Start a new game and the Draconis airship is
coursing through the heavens - a stone dragon that
flies. The camera focuses on Stahn being
confronted by two blue armored knights and the
captain of the Draconis. They're standing in front
of a chain linked post while winds blow and create
white lines that travel in a southeasterly
direction. Stahn whines about not being who they
think he is and the captain in the brown coat
addresses him. The two knights brandish their
swords in a menacing manner and Stahn sweats.
» Someone throws an apple at one of the knights
which distracts them and makes them spin around to
see who's there. The apple rolls to the side. The
knights move in for the kill again with Stahn
holding his arms up when something causes the ship
to shudder. An alarm sounds and everyone turns
around - fade out - the Draconis is still coursing
through the skies and airborne creatures carrying
animals are flying in the opposite direction. An
invasion of the Draconis is in progress and
everyone scatters except for Stahn who is now
standing by himself.
» Stahn's about to vamoose when a feral creatures
leaps in front of him and scrunches itself down as
if ready to pounce. It attacks but Stahn sidesteps
and runs into a building. Control is handed over
to the player at this point. Movement may be done
with the L-analog or D-pad. Move Stahn through the
doors and he's soon outside of the stone dragon
again. After exploring the ship, he encounters two
creatures but evades them and hides in a room. The
creatures try to ram the door open but he holds it
down with both arms. A voice speaks behind him and
he wheels around to face a sword that's the source
of the voice. The sword is encased in a chamber of
some sort with wires leading into it from four
different locations. The camera pans lovingly from
the bottom to the top of the sword and Stahn has a
moment to inspect it before the door is crashed
open by a beast.
» Stahn pulls the sword from its resting place and
turns around to face the creature. A side-viewed
action-packed battle ensues where the SQUARE
button is used to swing the sword. After an easy
fight, the creature is defeated. The rumbling of
the ship continues and he heads outside where he
witnesses a purple haired lass destroying two
creatures with quick and seamless attacks. They
speak briefly when two more creatures appear.
Another warrior enters the screen from behind the
beasts and slays them with two chops from an axe.
She pulls the other warrior hair away and Stahn is
left alone again. The graphics when fighting are
fairly large and detailed.
» Stahn eventually reaches the roof of the ship
and escapes in a capsule ship that plunges through
a stormy sky downwards (shown in a cinema) and the
ship eventually crashes intro the drink. He rises
up from the water, dodges hardware, and eventually
holds a conversation with his sword while
underwater. He grabs the sword which imbues him
with a sort of power and he raises it above his
head and causes the water to explode outwards
until he's standing in a dry rockbed with steaming
wisps around him. He's tired and exhausted and
eventually collapses while still holding the
sword.
» An introductory cinema follows which shows the
sword encased aboard the Draconis and the title
logo appears followed by a song and a camera that
glides over a green land followed by images of
Stahn holding his sword, his friends in short
animated sequences and other images of energy
blasts, rising rocks, Stahn attacking someone,
flying ships, and comrades fighting and slashing
their weapons at no one in particular. The cinema
continues with Stanh and Rutee standing together
on a craggy rock and ends with an image of the
sword gone from its casing.
» After the intro, Stahn wakes up to an annoying
voice. It's a blonde girl with blue ribbons in her
hair and a haus frau dress on. Stahn is lying on a
bed in full armor and the sword may be seen
resting against another bed close by. He soon
wakes up and holds a conversation with his sword.
A man with blue hair enters the room and the two
hold their own conversation.
» The character graphics in the game are very well
defined. The game looks beautiful with carefully
designed environments and models. When Stahn wakes
up in his room, the painting on the wall are all
distinct, there's a potted plant next to the
window, and the beds have rectangular pillows on
them. A nightstand between the two beds holds up a
pitcher of water and a cup.
» The camera is fixed position and there is no
accommodation for rotating the camera around to
view the game from different perspectives.
» Upon leaving the house, a save point may be
visited to the immediate left side of the stairs.
A snowman may be viewed on the right side of the
stairs.
» To pause the game at any time, press the START
button.
» The dialogue is accompanied by speech.
» The controls are smooth and Stahn walks and runs
around with ease.
» The game offers a total of 99 save slots on 1
memory card. To save, step into a lighted circle
with swirling radiance above it.
