NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
When a Book of Magic comes alive and creates a
vortex that sucks Chocobo's village companions and
friends into an alternate reality, it's up to the
yellow-feathered hero to rescue them. True to its
Final Fantasy roots, Chocobo to Mahou no Ehon is
an adventure game that uses familiar FF music
samples for the prologue and the victory screens.
Chocobo may be controlled through the d-pad or the
stylus where it motors towards a tapped point on
the touch screen. At the outset of the game,
Chocobo is sleeping on a field while three Chocobo
friends stand nearby. A redheaded gal named
Tsuroma sits on a log and reads from a book when a
Dark Mage named Kuroma ambles into the screen.
He's carrying a big and old book that Chocobo
later unlocks which ignites trouble...

NCS Game Notes
» In the animated intro to the game, Chocobo sits in a field while monsters and
other happenings flow around him. Chocobo is oblivious to the dangers but as long
as hes reading, everything appears to be copacetic. Man eating plants hover over
him, mountains
rise, monsters appear, waves drench and create an ocean around him, and
a shark readies for din-din with knife and fork.
»
In the intro to the game, familiar FF music plays (new rendition) and the
prologue scrolls slowly from bottom to top. Swish the stylus on the prologue
text if you need to review or rush it upwards by holding the stylus on the
bottom of the touch screen and then swishing upwards. Tap on SKIP to blow past
the intro.
Mini-games available at the outset (on the main menu) are:
1) Turtle Race: Chocobo and a competing bird sit on top of big turtles and race
around a weaving track. To make the turtle move, tap and hold the stylus on the
turtle shell on the touch screen and move the stylus around the shell to
maneuver the terrapin. As the two Chocobo race each other, boulders and other
obstacles rain from the top of the screen. The first one to reach the red flag
wins. To become shielded temporarily, remove the stylus from the shell and the
turtle will seemingly crystallize and any boulders will simply pass over it
without doing any damage to Chocobo or turtle.
2) A 5 x 5 stone grid appears. An arrow pops. Depending on where it points, tap
the number of arrows indicated in the direction pointed. For example, if one
arrows points to the left, tap the square immediately to the left. If you don't
follow the cues to a tee, you'll eventually uncover a monster and your game ends. Follow the directions and
you'll eventually uncover a gold crown. Exercises are broken up into
3-exercise chunks and the game gets harder and more convoluted as earlier levels
are conquered.
Story Mode:
Chocobo is sleeping while friends are standing on a field waving their wings
around. He wakes up and the game begins. Control is handled through the d-pad for
movement but the stylus may be tapped on a location on the touch screen and Chocobo will obediently walk over.
If you don't input for a minute, Chocobo falls asleep and "ZZZzzzs" rise above his
head while a strange chirpy snoring sounds emote. Input some control again and he'll slowly rouse
himself and shake his head to knock the cobwebs out. To talk to the three Chocobo
on the field, tap on them to walk up and them tap again on each one to engage in
conversation.
The redheaded girl Tsuroma holds a book open and sits on top of a tree stump. Approach her
and chat for a bit before Kuroma vectors into the screen from the southeast. He
carries
a big book which he lays down. Double tap on the book and then move the red
circles on the touch screen to match the guide and the book is unlocked. The
book then becomes like a thing alive - a chomping maw with a rabid tongue and
choppers. The book then churns into a vortex of energy and sucks everyone in the
vicinity into its spinning whirlpool of power. Its black wafting clouds spread and
pulls nearly everything into the vortex. After its finished, only Chocobo,
Kuroma, and Tsuroma remain standing. The book then faces upwards and flaps
away into the heavens. A single page drops. When Chocobo runs over to it and
taps, it turns into a big white cheerful bird which has been released from the
book's pages. Move to the east and find another
book of magic. Tap on it and Chocobo is teleported and plays a mini-game where
he rushes up a mountain on the back of a turtle. Succeed
and he's teleported back to the original location.
