NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
Kojima's stock market trading game for the
Nintendo DS uses 5 years worth of historical price
data from the Tokyo Stock Exchange. To enhance the
realism of the simulation, actual news stories and
corporate reports culled from the archives of the
Toyo Keizai Shinposha
are included in the game. As a virtual trader,
gamers get to buy, sell, and reap potential
fortunes from the rivers of capital represented by the stock
exchange. Before any of that however, a lengthy
training session must be endured which explains
the workings of the NDS trading screens, the
basics of the stock market, and a glossary of
market terminology may be reviewed to acquaint
oneself with words such as "margin," "dividends,"
"investment trust" and "capital gains." (Japanese
text only).

NCS Game Notes
» Before the title screen appears, portraits
of everyday characters float up the screen in
bubbles.
» Candlestick charting is used in the game and a
short primer in the Story Mode teaches gamers on
the basics of reading candles and deciphering heir
tails.
» Start a new game and name entry may be input in hirigana, katakana, or English.
» The trading day starts at 9:00AM and the indices
are shown on the top screen: The Tokyo Stock Exchange
followed by the TOPIX. The player starts with
capital of JPY3,000,000. A tutorial kicks off
at the outset of the Story Mode game which explains the various
sections of the screen, the data points, and charts.
You'll also be shown how to do your first trade.
» A charting mini-game (third option on the main
menu) may be enjoyed where you examine a section of
a historical chart and then project how the chart
eventually breaks - either up, down, sideways, or
in a V or reverse-V shaped formation. It's a fun
little tool to test your ability to read a chart and
figure out the trend. A volume indicator below the
chart also acts as a clue/guide.
» Purchasers of Kabushiki Baibai in Japan who open
an account with Monex though the application form
inside the game will get the full purchase price of
the game back. Accounts must be opened by the end of
June 2007 and the account must be funded with
JPY50,000 (about $500).
» The Story Mode features a training mode where the
player learns the rules and travails of the market.
The Expert Mode unleashes the player in the wilds of
the market with any investment style that one may
want to use whether it by all-in on a single horse
or a diversified portfolio.
» Great fortunes have been made and lost in the
stock market. A 100 share stake in Microsoft
purchased during its IPO in 1986 for roughly
US$2800.00 would have grown to 28,800 shares worth
US$866,016.00 as of yesterday's market close. If
you had held those shares, Microsoft's dividend of
$3.08 per share on November 15, 2004 would have
netted you a windfall of US$88,704.00. For
contrast, $2800 invested in AKLM or THDO would be
worth exactly 0.00 today. For the long term, the
market is about picking the right horses and
letting the bets ride.
