PS2 Wild Arms: the Vth Vanguard  - New Import, On Backorder

NCS Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
The fifth Wild Arms game marks the 10th Anniversary of the series which kicked off on the original Playstation in December of 1996. Trek back to the world of Filgaia which is gradually falling into ruin. A group of young heroes known as the Migratory Birds stakes out into the world and endeavors to reverse the descent into decay. Heading up the group is a blue-haired lad named Dean Stark - when we first see him in the game, he's carrying a shovel and headed towards a dungeon. Joining him in the adventure are Avalil Van Freul and Rebecca Streisand who appear on the cover artwork with Dean.

In the early part of the game, Dean ventures into the aforementioned dungeon and eventually uncovers a golden artifact which he presents to an acquaintance who is waiting outside. In the dungeon, simple actions are enacted to open doors and players get a feel for the control of the game. Dean's sliding dash and downwards attack move may also be practiced. The movement of the game flows in fluid fashion and a versatile camera may be positioned to view the action from overhead or lowered to view it from slightly below Dean. The battle system is dubbed HEX Battle where combatants are positioned on one of six hexagrams and move between them to attack and fend off counterattacks.

NCS Game Notes & Spoilers
» In the intro to the game, the camera pans over a grassy plain and eventually reaches a series of cliffs before meandering upwards where a flock of migratory birds fly. A blue-hared hero with blue eyes stands with a shovel before walking away. As we see his back, the logo pops up and he's joined by a redhead with braids, a girl with silver hair, a guy in a big hat, another girl with an orange hair and another guy. All of them join the hero and are walking away with their backs to the viewer.

» Leave the game alone and a battle sequence plays where the hero takes on a group of monsters that are perched on seven hexagons that ring the battlefield and show movement range. There's a scorpion, a horse-like creature, and a weird two-tentacled being that seems to be ringed with udders around its chest and back. It's a sight.

» Press START and player is prompted to select a save slot - up to 50 are available. A bevy of game customization options opens up afterwards.

» Start game and two birds wing above through the blue skies followed by more birds. The hero is shown carrying a shovel and walks towards what looks like ancient ruins. The text "the Vth Vanguard" appears and he jumps down and pushes the shovel in front of him like a true warrior usually does.

» Afterwards, control is handed over to the player. Run down the stairs into the ruins and rush ahead. To the left are three coins and a pedestal. Grab the coins and then step on the pedestal to trigger the door open. In the next area, push the big crate onto the pedestal to open the door and keep it open. Continue downstairs and you'll face a ledge that's too high to jump up onto but there are three wooden crates and a fourth crate made of stone and effaced with designs. To destroy the wooden crates, stand next to them and press the SQUARE button and hero will do a forward sliding attack that splinters them. In the next area are six mounds of earth. Go to each one and pick up the sparkling item on top of each. At the last mound, a gold artifact is unearthed.

» Afterwards, exit the dungeon and you'll eventually run into an old dude who appraises it. He knocks on it and hero seems happy with his find. If you explore the yard, there's a burned out hoopdie, some rusty barrels, and rusty beams lying around as if they were in a junkyard. Head downwards and go to the red/yellow/blue colored bird that's perched on a post and you'll be prompted to save your progress to memory card.

» Continue downwards and you'll eventually run into the red haired girl with green eyes and daisy dukes named Avalil Van Freul. Dean brings out a book and she grabs it like a treasure was just presented. Exit the town and Dean runs around the grounds with lit lamps lying about. Walk to the northwest and admire the realistic water as it flows downstream. If you continue to the southwest, the earlier dungeon may be found and explored again.
