Game Synopsis
«©NCSX»
The conclusive chapter of the .hack//G.U. story
comes to an end and all most loose
ends are tied up and resolved. Haseo aka "The Terror
of Death" is the protagonist once again with a new
look and the ability to transform into a powerful
Xth incarnation as depicted on the cover of the
game. Haseo's Xth form carries a pair of gun-scythes
which allow for shooting and slashing action within
the same weapon. It's basically the Dual Gunner
class Haseo uses in general. Familiar faces from the
earlier games in the series return to provide foil
and a few surprising revelations. From the first
volume to the third, a total of 22 party members
have aided Haseo's quest.
At the outset of the game, Haseo's dressed in a spiky black outfit
that makes him look demonic. When passing through a
crowd, an "x" cursor appears over NPCs to indicate
that they may be interacted with. Similar to the
earlier .hack//G.U. games, pressing the SQUARE
button in the overworld switches Haseo from walking
on foot to riding atop his motorbike. The screen
goes black for a second and he's high on his hog.
Haseo can ram the bike against enemies or bank to
stop with a curve. When passing fellow travelers on
the road, the bike seems to scare them.

Game Notes
» The memory card save data file takes up 489KB
» In the intro to the game, monumental
operatic-music plays while main characters and
villains are shown in quick cut sequences. As the
intro plays, snippets of text appear which play on
the G.U. initials in the game title. We spotted the
following: "Generation of Unity," "Genocide of the
Unfaithful," Guide to an Uprising," "Guardian
Ubiquitos," "Gathering of the Unwilling," "Genetics
of the Unknown," "Gate of the Uboros," "Graceless
Unison," "Geek's Utopia," and "Guilty Universe." The
names of characters are also shown Ridhell the
Prophet, Mecha the Temptress.
» On the title screen, the game selections are:
NEW GAME
Start a new game
DATA LOAD
Resume a game from save data
OPTION
Game Option
Vibration [On/Off]
Camera Type / [A/A, A/B, B/A, B/B]
Cursor Memory / [On/Off]
Display Adjust
Move the screen on the X and Y axis until it suits
your preference
Sound
Output [Stereo/Mono]
Volume [1 - 10]
» Start a new game and books appear. A girl
is seated in a rocking chair. The camera pans away
further as credits magically flash on screen. A
guy's chin is focused upon and he says "Aura." The
camera spins away onto a glimmering surface where
girl in blue hair and white bow is talking to guy
with glasses with a scarf thing around his neck.
Opera singer croons in the background with wailing
intensity.
» Upon entering The World, Haseo manifests in
front of a spinning gateway. The game seems to move
peppier than the first 2 games in the G.U. series
and Haseo runs energetically in a black costume that
makes him look like a spiky demon. To teleport
elsewhere after exploring the first chamber, run up
to the gateway and fly away. After entering the
outdoor area of the World, run around and attack
creatures without being provoked first. Just rush up
and engage in wholesale slaughter by swinging your
attack hand with the O button.
» A map located on the upper left corner of
the screen keeps track of where you've been by
marking trails temporarily with footprints. The
first batches of enemies in the game are pink
humanoid creatures that cover their heads with what
looks like big mushroom caps. We know this because
we've smacked the mushroom cap off of one of the
enemies to reveal the fleshy pink humanoid
underneath. In the first level, there are elevated
platforms with train tracks on them upon which a
little train carrying three creatures rolls. To
bounce them off the train, kick the steampipe
located in front of the tracks at the right time and
the hot air will pop the three creatures out of the
train. You can then attack them for bonuses. You can
do this for as many times as you like if you're
sadistic.
» Characters that may join Haseo's party
include
Azure Balmung,
Azure Flame Kite,
Azure Orca,
Bordeaux,
Kaede,
Matsu,
Natsume,
Shino,
Tabby, Yata, and
Zelkova.
» When Haseo fights, wicked looking
red-scimitar-like weapons pop out of his hands which
he uses to slash away at enemies.
» Similar to the second .hackGU, pressing the
SQUARE button instantly seats Haseo upon his road
hog. Pass citizens on your travels while motoring
and they'll be taken aback.
» People run around a lot in town and it
seems to be the preferred mode of transport. If you
stand next to a green teleportation circle, you'll
witness many teleportations in and out in the span
of a few minutes. When guests teleport in, they
start running immediately.
» Five teleportation stations are located
around town and you may port to any other one of
them by selecting it on a map.
» The opening of doors in the game are all
accompanied by very dramatic and grand animations.
For example, when leaving the first area and going
into town, the opening of the door lets in a golden
light that looks a scene from "The Ten
Commandments."
